Default Need help/info about code for CD 2

I bought a CD 2 radio/cd player for my '90gt on Ebay. Seller assured me he had the code and the unit worked properly.
It arrived with a 4 digit Porsche code card (7232)and a serial number which does not match any number on the radio. There are only 6 presets so I cannot insert a 7. Spoke with Stephan at SW Stereo and he said he thinks it should be a 5 digit code with no number higher than 6. But he was not certain and suggested I try pressing the 1 preset 7 times, moving to the 2 preset, etc. Tried that and only ended up seeing "off" in the display. I suspect it has now locked me out.
My questions: Can someone tell me for sure if the code is 4 or 5 digits? If 4, how to enter?
If I can be confident that the incorrect code was sent with the unit, I willl proceed to seek remedy from the seller/Ebay. However, I don't want to start making accusations unless warranted.

If the S/N on the card doesn't match the radio the seller was not honest or possibly pulled the wrong card.

I will check my code card tonight and post back unless someone beats me to it.

Try looking here. I got a code here for my CDR220 a few years back. Worked like a charm. http://www.radio-code.co.uk/code-entry-help.php

Better yet, it looks like it may be free right now!!

FWIW my code is 8682

Michael, is your code for a Porsche CD-2? And it has two numbers greater than 6. How do you enter it?

The UK place seems to only find codes for Becker radios with a 14 digiit serial # but I'll give it a try.

My S4 has a 5 digit code and it is 44421... Oh, yea it is a CD2 radio... POS btw, most of them are broken or replaced by this time I would think. Mine never worked quite right as you ALWAYS had to have a CD in the player...as long as you did that you could listen to the radio or any CD. Now the CD player does not work AT ALL and it will cycle a CD in and out over and over and over and over till you hold the CD so that it does not come out all the way...once it quits trying to eject it at that point it will stop the cycling! Real PITA! I would LOVE to get a pop out touch screen to put in its place! Any suggestions guys?!

Sorry, just fixed this... it is a 5 digit code, I had said it was 4 originally! My bad! My '92 GTS is a 4 digit and I think my '94 GTS is also a 4...

My CD2 shows similar simptoms James but I noticed that if you let the radio play for about 30 minutes to warm it up the CD Player starts to work. Not sure why this is but it has done it for the past year and still works.

Have you tried the internet for code-generators?

Try a google for "Becker4digit.exe" - not sure if thats the right one (don't have an original Porsche head unit on either car), but it'll bring up at least one site with more options.

Code generator will not work for CD 2.

I need two things:

1. Is the code for CD 2 radio 4 digits or 5? (James says 4, Michael says 4 with two "8's", but I think his is a CDR220)

2. If 4 digits (and one or more higher than 6), how do I enter my code (7232)?

CD2 code is 5 digits.
Serial number is stamped on the rear plate of the CD player - it is on the two that I have.

The proper 5 digit code needs to be entered by using the 6 preset switches.
Turn on the CD until it shows CODE. Enter the code.

I have the complete manual and will scan it for you.

Roger, I would much appreciate a scan of the manual.

Meantime I think I have an issue to take up with the seller who assured me he had the code and that the radio was operable. Wonder how he could determine that without the proper code? Stay tuned (no pun intended). I now have two worhless CD2's.

Good luck Jim. Seems working CD2's are very hard to come by which explains the high cost when you find a working unit.

Hope the seller made an honest mistake rather than a dishonest sale.

Afshin,

Next time I am out for awhile I'll try the CD player again.

Jim, also if you don't see the word "code"...ie. you don't see ANYTHING on the screen, take a needle or straighten a paper clip and push it in to that little tiny hole under the "eject" button...at least I think that is what the hole is under... It is on the right hand side of the radio. That should bring up "code" and then if you get the CORRECT code you will be good to go!

I also have a CD-2 in my car. It originally read code, now it reads off. I pulled it and called the local Porsche dealership and he told me he didn't even have that model number in his system and couldn't get me any info. Imagine that.

I will pull it out tomorrow and see if I can't get a code from the website posted.

Good thing the 928 sounds so good or I would be going nuts by now!

Thanks for the info!

Stephen
