In essence that is exactly how the LS9 works.

Twin injectors are cool, but probably not really necessary. You can get good idle quality on 60#/hr units, which will support 800+ hp.

Cool! Looks like these Mercedes superchargers.

I wonder if there is enough room in the middle for the supercharger and the injectors and the fuel rails? If the S/C will sit above those, won't it be too tall to fit under the hood?

Hi Tony,

Thank you..! Yes, the blower bolts up underneath to the beige bracket..

I expect to have a revised file showing SC and the throttle body etc. next week, and will post pics once I have the CAD files in hand.

Ken,

Yes, I modeled it similar to the Kleemann setup, as I learned about the Opcon Group (Laminova/Autorotor/Lysholm et al.) from them, and I also the Merc SLR as a guide. The second photo has Laminova cores in it.. Difficult casting...! (I will have the parts milled on a CNC)

Quattro,

I prefer two injectors, one for each valve for atomization and idle quality, and rail pressure... In addition, as I am having the entire manifold milled, it's not an issue to use two versus one injector.. I just prefer two..

Ok I gotta ask - Richard is this going to be a one off exercise for your car only or will the fruits of your labor be available for others who may be interested in in this same set-up. Of course $$ would be involved in that part.

I think a second car, for me, with this sort of set up would be fantastic.

Wow. Looks like a good direction. Are you already making chips, or are you still only in the desgn phase?

i wish i could have that set up in my car. Its what i enivisioned initially years ago.
The water bridge, and hood clearance are the issues.

Oil filler is not an issue as you can put oil in the car from any of the breather openings on the cam covers.

Dan,

This is a one off only for myself at this time. I am happy to make other sets if anyone is interested in paying. It is pretty expensive to develop this stuff the way I have done it..

I have stated many many times in past, and will do so again. I did not do this to make $$$ from the 928 community.. The 928 community is way too small for this to be a business. This is purely a design and engineering hobby of mine to demonstrate an idea I have had for more than 5 years..

Anyway, enough rambling.. Yes, if you will want a set made, after I have built and tested the thing on my personal 928, yes, I will make another setup. I will have all the parts in CAD, and it will only be a case of machining all the parts to spec, and some expert assembley. The Intercooler needs very special care when assembling, or it will leak like a sieve..! In addition, the machining on the intercooler is very critical to prevent leaking..

Hope that helps,

Dan,

As the setup sits now, it will not fit under the hood without modifying the water bridge or using less cores to clear the hood. In addition, the injector angle will be compromised.

I have another design that I am working on that may fit very closely, but not as optimal as the way this is laid out. (Too many turns for the cooled air, and it gets warm, and defeats the purpose of cooling.)

In addition, this system uses MAP sensors, and I will be running a Motec M8 ECU to control it, and tapping into the stock wiring harness using as many of the stock sensors as I am able to do. (Coolant, Air, transmission, etc.. need to add a boost sensor, and an IC temp sensor as well. Lots left to do..)

I will think about revisiting the design to fit it all under the hood after finishing this portion. (I planned on cutting my hood recently, as it was very difficult to get the power levels i want without cutting it..) That said, I think the bulge will be like that of a new Camaro, or a new M3.. It should not be too bad..

Cheers,

Mike,

No chips, I will be developing a scratch calibtration in the Motec using MAP, the MAF, LH, and EZK will be taken out of the car.

From what I have seen, with the JDS Sharktuner tool, it would be possible to use the system with a recalibration of the LH abd EZK. It would be easiest in that case to use the stock throttle body etc. and have only one intake tube. This setup will have dual air intake pipes linked to the one TB..

I wanted the ability to trim out the fuel and ignition on an individual cylinder basis, and run COP and a few other things. In addition, I got a really screaming deal on my Motec, so I just wrote a check on the spot....

Here's a link to a similar setup- with a newer version of the blower, makes 700 hp easily. I have ridden a Cobra with this engine in it, and it is quite a lot of fun..!

Richard if you need any input from the machining end, let me know.

Steve,

I will definitely give you a jingle, as you're very close by... I may ask you to make some machinist comments to ease the setup, and cost of fabrication, and ask you to quote me on the machine work..

Falconer makes some interesting stuff.. I think that or a motor like that was at the Jet Center party last year if I remember..

Good thing you reminded me on this list, I just asked another source to be ready to quote me the milling..

I'll send you a PM..!

Thanks again..!

Hmmm...okay you got me thinking...

Dual 42lb injectors.......so 84lbs per cylinder....8 cylinders 672lbs of fuel per hour.....okay even at a horrible .7 BSFC your looking at 960HP.....@ .6 its 1120HP......damm how much power are you planning to make?????????????????????????

Brian,

I never went to math class...! I don't know how to count...!

But, a bird told me that BSFC of .39 could be had if thought out properly.. So, who knows, like I said, I can't count..

Oh, by the way I also have a 588 CI Big Block Chevy motor for my boat sitting in the garage...

Did I just say that..? Hmmmmmmmmm..?

Just a random thought after reading the supercharger/turbo kits thread..

Is there enough clearance to add "Porsche 32V" as embossed 2-3mm high lettering on the top cover above each intercooler?

With the right PC finish, this could be made to look very "stock" for those who have to pass inspections
