Default Door seal question

I was replacing the driver side door seal on my 85 because the old seal has some damage on the top corner of the door. I picked up a used seal and it was different then mine. The replacement one has metal embedded all the way around and the part that goes around the outside edge of the door is ribbed where mine was smooth. Also this ribbed part wraps around the whole door where my original smooth edge stops at the door bottom.

With the replacement seal in place, it was almost impossible to close the door. I ended up using 1/2 of the replacement seal to go around the top of the door and my old one for the bottom of the door and I butted them together and I will use some silicone to keep them from coming apart.

Has anyone else run into this before?

Update: My wife just took the car for a drive and she said the door whistles now beyond belief, so sounds like it isn't compatible or perhaps something else isn't fitting right. I made one of my joints right behind the door hinge because that is where my replacement seal was cut, I take it there it a ton of air movement there?

the used seal may be for an earlier car , the later style seals are glued on where the early style are pushed on along the bottom and this will usually cause corrosion along the bottom of the door due to dissimilar metals.
Use 3M yellow trim adhesive for the door seal and then try using some super glue for the edges where they are butted

Check with a couple of the normal vendors, the door seal I am pretty sure is one of the parts that is available at a reasonable price from the OEM instead of the Porsche part.

Pelican has it for $138.50, I may have to go that route.

And don't cut them up. If you put the new seal on and the door doesn't close properly, then you'll need to adjust the door. Chances are, if you get a new seal, it will be the most recent one commonly found on the GTS. That one definitely has extra rubber on it and it will drastically reduce the wind noise (as long as you don't cut it up.) But you may also have to adjust the door slightly.

to install the new seal make one cut,.......... unless your going to disconnect the door harness and the door stop.
Use 3M trim adhesive to put it on, it comes in a tube and is yellow
If you do cut the rubber use super glue to put it back together.
Test fit it B4 using any glue

+1 When I did mine I made 1 cut dead center on the bottom of the door.

Most of these cars need new door stops anyway, no way I am going to cut one of them on my car.

I had both of mine off for paint, no biggie.
