I just woke up from a dream (maybe a nightmare) that I purchased a DeLorean.
One of those really vivid dreams, I could smell the oil burning, complained about the bad brakes etc.... then I parked between two SUV and I couldn't open the doors.
That aside, for the right price I would be tempted to buy one. Heck, it was designed by the same guy who styled the Scirocco, I have one of those in the garage already. Might as well complete the collection.
I've always been surrounded by them. Growing up in Lawrence Kansas in the 80's my father knew two DeLorean owners (one also had a BMW M1). My friends shop in Green Bay sees them on a fairly regular basis. It's cool to walk into the shop area and seeing three DeLorean's and a couple of 928's on the lifts.

some rather conflicting info here, if youve been around Ds alot you probably should have noticed that the doors take less room to open than normal doors, just 14"

I think we've talked about this before
Funny how the bad brakes / oil burning comment didn't gather any comments

Regional manager of a couple local MacDonalds bought two Deloreans brand new, one for him, and one for his girlfriend. He used to make whichever crew was in trouble wash and scotchbrite them.

That little thing is so CUTE!!!! I would totally Jspec that sucker out! Id even put orange neon and v-tech stickers on that!!! Type R badges, NOS stickers (even though there would be no bottle) Id restore its paint to its former awesomeness, but on the roof, Id have some giant kanji decal that said that I was the greatest!!!!
...I wonder what kinda mileage that thing go new...?
Ive wanted one since I was 4 F that, Ive wanted one before John Delorean was born!!!!
Theres a guy down my street with one. Never drives it. Its parked outside always. Its always tarped up, but thats not going to protect it from hail and squirrels. I want one so bad, but I know I too would have no place to park it (it really needs to be garaged, and then what will I drive?) Seriously, I love my cars to death that I daily drive each one. How do I do it? I drive one till it needs work, then I drive another until it needs work. But if all my cars were perfect, how would I choose?

Nice rust repair! I am one of those people who thought a DeLorean will last forever, because it's made of stainless steel... not entirely, as it seems.
I always loved the DeLoreans. The first one I saw was in 1981, when I was in Southern California for student's exchange. What a modern looking car that was, compared to everything else on the road... well, except a 928, of course!
Strangely, the only thing I don't like about the car is something many appreciate about it: The gull wing doors. Having been in a rollover accident that ended with the car upside down, I would not want to be trapped in even the prettiest of cars - particularly when it catches fire.
So, despite all the love: No DeLorean for me. I'll stick with the 928 for now.

yeah that little z600 gets about 60mpg hwy, a car magazine tested it new in the '70 and claimed 130mpg if theyd criused in 4th gear at just 30mph. im not going to make it ricey, it will have a proper roll cage and a thoughly built engine, when it blows up ill install a cbr 600 up front, maybe make it rear drive too. that b18c powered one above doesnt look that bad either, 180hp in a 1300lbs car??
Instead of the 600, why not put a Hurricane 1000 (CBR 1000F) engine into it? They are much more powerfull and don't take up a lot more room than the 600. the 1000F is rated at 135hp and has way more torque than a little 600. I've picked one up (with a damaged engine) last fall, fixed it over the winter and sold it 2 months ago. It was a fun project. The engine is a mini version of a Civic, so it's easy to work on.
