Default 928Codes: Decode Option/VIN/Paint Codes:: New Version + Web Interface

For those on the board interested in decoding all option codes, VIN numbers and paint codes, I've *finally* had the chance to complete the latest version of 928Codes. The latest version includes the following:

- Decoding of all VIN codes for all years [Euro & ROW]
- Decoding of all known option codes for all years [Euro & ROW]
- *NEW* Decoding of all paint codes [with special markers for water-based paints]
- *NEW* Web Interface

This release includes the new web interface: http://www.928codes.com

The web interface is deliberately very sparse and simplistic. Its intended to be used via normal [PC-based] web browsers, thin clients and mobile devices. The idea being that you can decode all your codes whilst out in the field scoping out a new barn find.

So far, I've tested:
- Palm Centro
- Palm 650
- Nokia N63/71 Series

There shouldn't be any issues with any normal PC browsers. IPhones and blackberry's should be no problem as well.

I've also posted new source and binary packages for 64bit Linux and 32bit Windows. Makefiles are included in the source package, so compiling on other POSIX compliant operating systems should be no problem.

Enjoy!

I never got a chance to look at the original, but this sounds like a dream come true... it's even mobile web compatible??? (I couldn't even install PET on my netbook due to screen resolution ) You're the man!!

Guess I should actually look at it before making any remarks about it, I'll have to update later today when I actually have more then 2 minutes to check it out.

Thanks!

Very cool! Thanks.

Popped my vin in, works good. I like the simple interface. Less is more.

Will drop my option codes in later when I get home.

Web interface is great start. Couple of suggestions on how it could be even better.

Option code list could be longer. For example its missing almost all Cxx country codes. http://members.rennlist.com/vilhuer/options.pdf

VIN field could use some kind of validity check like how long VIN is given. For example WPOZZZ92NS80410 will give '95 MY GTS info when actual VIN is WPOZZZ92ZNS80410. For US VIN's 9th digit can also be used to check all other digits are right. In case it helps I have Visual Basic code somewhere which calculates check digit using other 16 chars.

It would be creat to have single button which gives all paint codes out.

Interior code decoding would be great. List of all possible codes is hard or maybe even impossible to find ready made. It should be possible to compile it with right source material.

VIllhuer, will work on those bits for the next release. ACK!!! Visual Basic... run away, run away!!

Everything is written in POSIX C and the web interface is wrapped in PERL. I can do the VIN parsing in C or using PERL regex. I'm definitely going to add the all inclusive paint codes in the next release.... just figured I would get something useful out to the community sooner than later.

Default VIN Numbers Matching ?????

Great! What does "VDS" mean on the report?

I cannot seem to get the paint code to work, with/without spaces. It is 35X 9 3

Isn't the VIN number on the door jam supposed to match the one on the dash near the lower driver's (LHD) corner looking through the winsdshield?

VIN on door jam = WPOAA2923MS810413
VIN on dash = WBAWV13537PK49741

Car is 1991 S4 Auto Turquoise Metallic with all black interior

Ummm, yes the vins are supposed to match.... Hmmm, not quite sure how to say it but it sounds like your door may have been changed out at some point in its life.

S4ordie, I don't have 35X listed as a valid paint code. I have several metallic colors listed as 35 *, * being several characters.

VDS determines whether the car is ROW or Euro. A VDS starting with `Z` [ZZZ or ZZZZ] is a Euro. All others are ROW. From what I understand, the VDS code was meant to further describe specific features or destinations of ROW models. I've been looking for further information on how to decode these, but have come up short.

OK been checking all my option codes, I'm a little confused here.

XK7 : Leather **** cover (manual trans) Color to sample

I'm just not sure if the short shifter is going work now.

OOPS. I promise there was no poop injured in the making of this software. I'll try to have it fixed tonight. Good catch!
