Window Roller kit from 928 International...anyone used it?
I've already fixed my driver's side window roller once with a used roller, and I think the used roller broke again this morning, just 8 months later. Has anyone use the kit that 928 International offers?

I can't tell from the picture how the wheel in this kit attaches to the regulator arm...does it screw on? Rivet?
I'd call the folks at 928 International, but I think they might still be sleeping out in CA

I have bought the parts seperately and used them together. Not quite a "kit" but they have worked fine so far. The "rivet" is driven into the arm and then peened so it cannot come out again. The old one must be ground down a little with a grinder to get it off.

Thanks, Fabio. My current replacement is already secured via bolt/nut, so it ought to come off easily (it's probably already off due to the new breakage anyway). What did you use to peen the new rivet? A hammer? A vice? Something else?

Thanks for the topic, Big Dave. I've got a set that I've been holding onto, not knowing what to do with it! I placed and order a couple of years and Jim asked if I wanted 'em as a WYAIT issue. I said sure, having no idea.

Hey Chaad...any interest in selling one/trading? You could save me a few days of an inoperative window while I wait for the kit to travel from CA.

They are original Porsche parts. You remove the regulater from the door ,drill out the end of the old rivet. Then place the roller and rivet on the arm. Use a small socket behind the head of the rivet to make the other end stand proud. Place it on hard surface(driveway) and use a hammer and a punch to slightly mushroom the small end of the rivet. Use care NOT to pound it down too far or the roller will not roll.

Dave,
You're welcome to one if I can find it! I just checked my parts bin and didn't see it. I think they're in the glove box, but the car is at the dealer getting an alignment right now, so I can't check. I'll look around more in a minute just in case it's in the garage somewhere, or I'll give you a call this evening when I pick up the car.

Isn't the roller and rivet supposed to go into the window before pounding the rivet to a mushroom? At least it looks that way...

Nope , it slides in easily as you put the regulator back in place just get it in the slot before bolting in the regulator.

On this site: http://www.kondratyev.com/porsche/te...ndow_frame.htm
It says that there is a spring that can break requiring manual assistance to bring the window back up. My passenger window needs a push forward from the rear of the glass in order to get the window to come up completely. I am guessing that this is related to the spring. Do you have a picture of what that looks like? I can't seem to locate it in PET and I'm a little confused.

Dave, Jim pretty much nailed it. Thats exactly how I did it, only I used a grinder to remove the mushroomed end of the rivet instead of drilling it out. I think its easier this way.

Sounds good. The (likely broken) wheel that's on there now is attached via a nut/bolt that I had to grind down, so removal will be easy this time. I've ordered the kit from 928 International, but if Chaadster finds his spare, I'll be doing the repair tonight (rather than just propping the window shut while I wait for the part to arrive ).

Yep, it was a broken roller wheel. Thanks to Chaadster for letting me have his spare while a new one is en route from 928 International. 60 minutes in the garage and IT'S FIXED.
