Yikes! That's about $27,700 worth of fixes. That translates roughly to $1538.88 per year or $128.00 a month. Consider it a car payment!

It looks like it's time for a new clutch!

BTW. Mine is in the shop right now with starting problems. I just got it out of the same shop a little over a week ago (unrelated $1,100.00). I'm really starting to miss my shark!

Ross, I also have an '83. I would say your maintenance costs are pretty much average, depending on how much your car is used and how hard it's driven. It also depends what kind of enthusiast you are.

Regular maintenance is one thing, but it's when you start doing mods to it when the money really flows. Ask me! - When the fine line of distinction becomes obscured by an obsession to go faster and look cooler, you can find yourself in a deep financial hole before you know it.

Anyway, it's a wonderfull car, so if you can afford it, the pleasure you'll get from driving it should be sufficient reward. Stick with it. Just be realistic, that's all.

Just my 2 cents worth..., er, actually, whilst were at it, let's make that $ 2.00, or rather $ 2000.00 he-he-he...

A lot of those items seem to have been done too soon and for too much. The first cma belt at 27k miles is one example.

What gets done for a tune-up, and why does the car need one every two years?

About 23k miles later another cam-belt? Why?

Also, two master cylinders in 11 years?

Also, why another H2O pump in less than 20k miles?

Why so many clutches?

That last $2,733 job should have been in the $1500 range. I did mine for about $500.

From what I gather, there are owners out there who have more dollars than sense and there are mechanics who will help them spend them. The first owner either had too much money, or most of the work done was covered under warranty.

My average 928 costs are in the $1k to $2k range. However, I use my GT for daily driving AND for performance driving. If it were just a commuter car, the average would be considerably less. YMMV.

Way too much maintenance and WAAAY too much money.

You too can spend that much at a dealer, or you can spend half as much at a good shop, or you can spend les than a quarter as much and DIY.
