I need help with a loose mirror.
The PS mirror is loose at the pivot joint.
JB Weld held for about 6 months and now it's time to try something else.

Jim,
This happened on my '82. Remove the mirror mounting from the outside (the part the mirror housing pivots on)...no need to remove the inner door trim to try this. There is a "nut" inside the mirror housing with slots in it and a hole in the center thru which the mirror motor wires pass. it's pressed downward toward the body by a pretty stiff spring. On mine, the nut had come loose. To get it back on, I took a large bladed screwdriver and pressed down hard to compress the spring and turn it slightly to start the nut back on. Be careful of the wires and don't get greedy trying to get a lot of turns in one shot. Get it started, move the wires so they're not strained, and push/turn a bit more.
It's easier if you can dis-connect the wires and pull the whole shell off but I didn't need to do that. If you do, you'll likely have to cut them and splice them back when you put it on.
HTH,
Jim

I'm fairly certain the 928 mirrors are the same basic design as the 944 Flags. I have a detailed procedure on upgrading to 968 aero mirrors in my sig (968 Aero Mirror Upgrade). While the mirrors shown will not fit the 928, the inner workings of the 944 Flags are the same. In the procedure you'll find pics along with the steps to remove the mirrors. Hopefully this will give you a visual to repair your mirrors by.

Question? I got mirror defrost as an option on my cars. When I switch to the Aero mirrors, what do I need to keep this option. (Not that I'll ever really need mirror defrost, but like to keep all the original options on the cars functional.)

I think all late model Porsche's came with this as standard equipment. At any rate, the aero mirror kit for the 944 already has the wiring for the defrost, so I'm pretty sure it would be the same on the 928 aero's as well. It's just two wires that attach to the glass. I'm assuming it runs current through the glass to "melt" the condensation.
