Pros and Cons of (CAR) Bras
My car came with a leather Porsche bra for the hood, front bumper, and mirrors. I've finally got the nose cleaned and I'm in the process of putting on all the pieces.
I'm really not sure I like the way it looks and I'd like dome opinions from some wearers and non wearers. Black car, black bra.

bras are really good, when worn correctly, and at the right times, and the owner uses his best judgment.
i was always great about being carful, and making sure not to have it on when it rained. i goofed one time.
the heat under the black bra, caused the metal to get really hot. the water from the rain got under the bra. no matter what kind of bra you use, this can happen, whetrher it be magnetic, or vynal.
here is a message from a post i made a few mos ago.

luckily, after alot of wax and elbow grease, the paint seems to be coming back. this is the right front fender. no waxing.
this is the front left fender after alot of waxing and elbow grease. (both fenders were equally as bad) all i can say is im lucky it can be brought back, but i have alot of waxing to do! hopfully my arms wont fall off when im finnished, so that i can at least enjoy and drive her!
LEARN A VERY IMPORTANT LESSON FROM THIS!!!!!!!!
I KNOW I HAVE!!!!

only have the bra on when its nice.. rain will cause whitening (moisture baked into the paint, as you see above), and also if you leave the bra on there when not driving, any moisture underneath can cause rust. take it off after each time you have driven it, or when it is raining.. no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (again.. look at the pics above.. hopfuly they will scare sense into everyone, and this message can teach others the hard lesson i personally learned)
bras are not a bad thing. they can do alot to protect paint. BUT when used in correctly
they will cause more harm than good. use common sense and you will be fine.
btw.. what did i have to do to fix my paint....
alot of time, elbow grease, patience, prayer, ulcers (about worrying about an immaculate paint job done in 1983, that cost $6k when it was done, was ruined.) it is not 100%, and i doubt it can ever be brought back 100%, as if you look really closely you can still tell. we got it to about 90% back, using 3m rubbing compound, 3m glaze, polishing compound, and zymol.. alot of work. still not 100% but this was the results.

please excuse the rant, but i hope this can really help you out. please, learn from my mistake!!!!!!!

Ernest,
I have one on my 928 because it is covering up the nose that I am currently working on. It is being prepped for repainting and the bra covers this up nicely.
So long as you take it off when it or the car gets wet or dirty (the movement of the bra on the car will act like sandpaper) and clean it just like any other part of your car. I think they can look fine.
I don't mind them at all and I think for me it adds some contrast to the car. Some people really hate them. To each his own. Here is a manipulated image of my car with it on. I didn't have the mirror ones yet.

Ern,
What they said!
Here in West Texas Blow sand is a big issue, bra or no bra. A Texas breeze 35-54 mph even glass is at risk particularly door glass due to the rubber window seals. Car covers can also flail sand anywhere on your paint job.
As to 'looks' even a poor looking bra can look outstanding at 5-10 feet. Unless the bra is all 'bagged out' and uneven I personally think they enhance the look of most cars.
But you just can't leave them on and expext to keep the paint in pristene condition.
A lot of folks -here use the same clear, rubberized feeling version of acetate to protect the nose area as well as the headlights.
You peel it off when done travling.
Harry's finish must have about broken his heart when it water stained, I've seen similar damage from car covers after a rain on cars as well as Bike's.
And on the wonderful island of Oahu, Moke's and other a-holes will use your car for target practice utilizing beer bottles and rocks if you cover your vehicle for any length of time.

Nicole,
I understand. They must feel cold when you first put them on.
Sounds like they're only "fair weather friends". Bit of a nuisance to put on. I gather they shouldn't be left on in the garage either.
Hoffman,
Gorgeous car!

I think bras, for the most part, look *****. They look like you're trying to hide something under there, like front-end damage or something.
On the other hand, they do have a use; you can save your car from road rash by putting the bra on only when you are driving. And as Harry so nicely explained to us, don't leave the damn thing on over night!

I like the leather mirror covers. On my chiffon white 84S, I think they complement the black front and rear spoilers, as well as, the tires and the dark window tint. However the bra just seems to be too much. It came with my 928 3 years ago and I have used it only once.

its not a matter of doing more harm than good really. its kinda like going out drinking.. if youre responsible about your actions, you will be fine, but if youre not.. then you can do alot of harm.
its about using it responsibly. if a bra used responsibly, you wont have any probs. if you dont use it responsibly.. then....

I have a bra on my car only to hide chips and discoloration in the front hood paint. It's a black car so the bra blends in nicely. When I repaint the car at some time in the future, the bra will stay off. I don't like the look on non-black cars though. I just added the mirror covers a few months ago and they also cover all the paint chips on the mirrors nicely. I buy a new one every year just because it starts to look "used" after 8/9 months even with regular cleaning.
