1974 Chevy Malibu (unique cimmaron red color) 350 with AT (Dad traded in Camaro for this so Mom could drive)..I remember the trip to the dealer in Grants Pass OR...Dad really wanted a burgandy Laguna model (basically Malibu with special stickers and body parts)..but dealer wouldn't let it go as it was the first on the lot..

Nice to see a few 505's in there.

89-90: '85 Peugeot 505S wagon, auto (slow!)
90-93: '86 Lincoln Mark VII LSC
93-95: no car
95-04: '95 Acura Integra LS 3 door (this was a great car)
00-03: '00 VW Golf 1.8T 5 door
03-06: '96 Saab 900 SE 5 door
04-present: '87 928S4 auto
06-present: '03 BMW 540iT

For a car guy, not much of a collection - I was really happy with that Acura, probably shouldn't have gotten rid of it. But I'm pretty happy with the 2 cars I have now, and it's a hard combo to beat.

1989 Merkur XR4Ti
-5sp. Added my own intercooler, boost controller, exhaust... my first experience with modifying and upgrading. Fun autocross car.

1986 Porsche 928S 5sp

I'll play:
In order of acquisition (this includes the wife’s rides as well)
1977 Honda Civic - once coasted 10 miles (in the mountains) with a busted timing belt
1984 Honda Accord
1987 Honda CRX Si - best little car ever
1989 Ford Taurus SHO- fastest piece of crap ever
1990 Jeep Cherokee
1980 MGB Limited Edition - fun car
1996 Nissan Maxima
1995 BMW 318i - bought when the CRX gave its life for me
1999 BMW 323iC - still with me
2001 Toyota Highlander - nice and bland though reliable
1989 Porsche 928 -
2006 Acura MDX - got tired of the Highlander

That makes 12 cars in 24 years. Looks like I'm an amateur compared to some here.

Not quite...but I traded a nice pump shotgun for it...that should tell you something.. Hadn't been run for about 15 years...sitting in farmer's barn. I've been restoring cars ever since...only it's hard to get ahead of the 928.

BTW, Sharkskin. you have a nice (and helpful) home page.

I've not owned anywhere near as many cars as some people here, but I have to separate the ones I have had into two catagories:

1. Primary cars
2. Work cars.

1. Primary cars- cars I put an active interest into:

'77 VW Rabbit ('84-'86)
'85 VW Scirocco turbo ('86-'94)
'92 VW Corrado SLC ('94-'99)
'85 Porsche 928S2 ('99-present)

2. Work cars- cars that I maintain but really don't care about:

'80 Fiat Spyder (Rusty, always in need of repair...but it handled well)
'82 Nissan Maxima ("Betty the brown beater", ugly but it always started.)
'66 Ford F100 (the infamous "HappyTruck"; had the braking performance of a locomotive~)
'80 VW Jetta
'97 Ford Aerostar (cheesy...)
'97 VW Jetta GLX (<---Fast, fun to drive....but a HUGE piece of sh*t!)

N!

(Oddly enough, I already had this written out, just cut and pasted it)

1. 1982 Ford Pickup: Rwd Inline-6 automatic, brown over brown plaid, AM radio. Great skateboard adventure vehicle, and learning-to-drive -and drift! - truck. My dad regretted letting me drive it after I put skateboarding stickers on it. 1989 (sweet 16)
2. 1986 Chevy Celebrity Coupe, 4-cyl fwd, green over green, auto, nice backseat, slow and ill-handling, first couple of fender-benders for me, then my sister totaled it. 1991
3. 1982 Mazda GLC 2-door hatchback, 4-cyl fwd, grey over grey, hardcore skateboard adventure vehicle, first manual transmission, first blown motor (overheated and warped head). Later (between cars #8 and #9) failed to revive with engine swap from wrecked GLC sedan, when a snapped-off sparkplug led to complete gumption loss. 1992-3
4. 1983-ish Dodge Colt 2-door hatchback, 4-cyl fwd, auto, light brown over brown, leaky aftermarket sunroof, rotting carpet, crappy handing, traded to scumbag junkie for a…
5. 1977 Olds Delta 88 Coupe, 350 Rocket V8, auto, rwd, rusty dented yellow over stained tan interior, cracked wooden bumpers, no locks, no turn signals, bad brakes, very loud exhaust, power windows bad, all instruments dead (but it felt fast!), no plates or insurance, first report-and-repair ticket and then it died and got impounded – with no title. Lost all favorite cassette tapes to impound yard dammit. 1993
6. 1984 Pontiac Sunbird 2-door coupe, 4-cyl fwd, 5-speed stick, rusty white over brown, free among friends, paid crackhead mechanic to repair blown head gasket, put 20,000 high-speed miles on in one summer (due to a long-distance relationship) before the exhaust manifold fell off. Resurrected from deep snowdrift to be given away free among friends again, then the head warped and it finally died.
7. 1984 VW Scirocco 2-door hatchback, 4-cyl fwd, 5-speed stick, faded black over grey, first loan ($1K) & first totaled-out car in high-speed gas-station shortcut mishap. First “sports car”, only had it 4 weeks in fall of 1993.
8. 1988 Olds Cutlass Cierra 4-door, 4-cyl fwd, auto, light grey (Mom’s car), good in snow but so booor-ring! so I traded in for my next ride…
9. 1990 Honda Civic Si, 2-door hot little hatchback, 4-cyl DOHC 16V fwd, perfect 5-speed short-throw stick, deep glossy black-on-black, power moonroof, wonderful interior ergonomics, first “fast” car and first street race win, great handling and reliability, then first repossessed car at low point of life. 1995-early 96
10. 1985 Chevy Cavalier “Type 10” 2-door Coupe, 4-cyl fwd, 4-speed stick, rusty, oil-burner, light blue, paid $400 and later sold without payment to semi-retarded deadbeat coworker.. 1996
11. 1977 Dodge Aspen 4-door sedan, slant-6, dark green over tan plaid, very rare 4-speed on the floor stickshift that would often jam in 2nd gear and had to be jimmied loose with a large screwdriver. Had to use a block of wood for a parking brake, body was incredibly rusty (rear fenders flared out like wings at ~80mph) and dangerously loose steering with about 2” of play. Bought for $300, sold for $160 w/ toasted brakes. 1996
12. 1984 Toyota Supra 2-door hatchback, white over brown cloth, sweet 2.8 DOHC inline-6 rwd, 5-speed w/ hydraulic clutch, 177K miles and running very strong, fully independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes, funky rear wing on top of rear window, 3-way adjustable via manual air-pump lumbar support in driver’s seat, no radio, no locks, body had minor tree-damage and was so rusty that I had to silicone-glue the hatch and sunroof shut and fab a brace to bolt the unibody side to floor. Tight steering and very fast – 120+mph. Great long-distance cruiser. Paid $500, then in-tank fuel-pump died, sold for $150 as parts car. 1996-7
13. 1987 Datsun/Nissan 200SX 2-door hatchback, 4-cyl rwd, 5-speed manual, black over grey, fully independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes, perfect steering feel and balance made a great drifter, great interior ergonomics, no rust, nasty slow “lean burn” 8-sparkplugs-on-a-4-banger motor that heat-soaked it’s electronic distributor constantly. It was pretty good on gas, though. Paid $700, sold for $200 to drunk who left my plates on it and then hit-and-ran into a parked truck. 1998
14. 1986 Cutlass Cierra 4-door, 2.8 V6 fwd, auto, white over blue, AM/FM AC-Delco, wife’s old car, very reliable and best snow car ever – a snowdrift crusher car. Rusty, leaked tranny fluid so badly that I collected it with a drip pan and poured it back in. 1997
15. 1985 Mazda RX-7 GS (base model from last year of 1st generation) lightweight 2-seater hatchback, 12A carbureted Wankel rotary engine and RWD, 5-speed stick, stiff and numb-feeling manual recirculating-ball steering, live rear axle with panhard bar, front disc and rear drum brakes, beautiful light metallic blue over blue cloth/vinyl, purchased from original owner with 73K miles, near mint condition paint and interior. I flooded it and thought it was dead for 3 years. Very fun to drive. Had rusty wheel-wells and leaky gas tank, inoperable horn. Paid $3000!, sold for $400. 1999
16. 1990 Mazda RX-7 GTU (base model of 2nd generation Series 5), 13B fuel-injected Wankel rotary engine and RWD, 5-speed with worn 1st & 2nd sychros and worn clutch, excellent fully independent suspension and decent-sized 4-wheel disc brakes, quick power rack & pinion steering, bright red over black cloth, body-colored side molding and sweet factory wing, nice detachable-face CD player, only modification was a high-flow catalytic converter, very fast – 130+mph. Put it up for sale and then the Wankel’s oil seals blew. Never got around to swapping in a small block Ford V8 due to starting a family. Bought for $3300, sold for $546 worth of carpet. 2001
17. (daily-drove the white Cutlass for 3 years, during this time bought/sold/traded/parted-out but never drove 2 dead ’82 RX-7s and 2 dead ’85 RX-7s)
18. 1990 Honda Accord Coupe, 2.2 4-cyl fwd, auto, green over tan, incredibly wonderful ergonomic interior, when we were first living together I helped my future wife pick it out and gave her the down payment. Years of reliable transportation. 1998 hers, 2002 mine.
19. (Wife’s car) 2002 Mazda Protege5, 4-cyl fwd compact 5-door wagon, auto w/ manu-shift option, super-bright white over grey/black cloth, first brand-new car purchase, fully independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes (with factory front strut tower brace), quite nimble handling but firm ride, great ergonomics, not enough cargo space, amazingly bright lights, absolutely reliable, great city car and fun to drive. Amy named her “Zoom Zoom” after the Mazda ad campaign featuring this car. First baby hauling car. 2002 onwards!
20. 1986 Porsche 928S 2-door hatchback uber-coupe Grant Touring flagship, Weissgoldmetallic over brown, front-mounted water-cooled 4-OHC 32-valve 5.0-liter fuel-injected V8, RWD, rear-mounted 4-speed automatic transmission, power everything (with bad switches), all-power luxuriously soft heated leather EZ-chair seats, instrument-panel tilted with tilt steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, disabled high-end stereo. Dealer-installed built-in options included: 1985-vintage Bel radar detector, “Commander” car-phone and a dementedly defective alarm system (with huge decaying wiring tangle under the carpet). This “Land Shark” was an excellent very-high-speed long-distance cruiser, had unbeatable acceleration from 100mph on up and a top speed of 155mph, was heavy but had oddly nimble handing (oh-so-sweet steering feel!), but was amazingly over-engineered, over-complicated, and painfully difficult - yet oddly fun! - to work on (timing belt replacement: 175 steps), not to mention the deeply expensive parts. The original window-sticker included showed a purchase price of $52K, I paid $4K at auction for dead-battery car, put $2K into parts (including a set of very cool 18” Porsche 993 Cup wheels) and what seemed like a million hours into repairs, drove less than 1000 miles, and sold for $5500 at auction. 2003-4
21. ( 2005: back to the Accord)
