The outside temp sensor is actually not off / on. It is variable. as temp outside changes amount of heat (or cooling) varies and the position of the flaps (and if the heater valve opens) depends on this information.

Wanted to bring this back up. My temp seems to now read considerably high, about 20F+ degrees. Randy, did cleaning help? I'm thinking about a new sensor, but don't want to waste money if the result willbe the same. ANyone else have soem before and after experience with an irratic outside temp sensor?

Andrew,
Check the specs on the probe. It has limitations with respect to high rates of acceleration.
This can cause false readings. Remove the SC and give it to me - this will solve the problem.

Andrew, The sensor should not be a problem. It will either work or not. One thing to remember is that the signal is incredibly sensitive to contact surfaces. If it is a RTD (resistance changes with temperature), you can see that any connection in the system that has any resistance will change the reading. If it is a thermocouple there are even more factors as dissimilar materials in the connection as well as resistance affects the reading. My experience with themperature sensors is that they work perfectly or not at all. The connections in the system are a completely different issue. Hopefully that confused you enough to give me th SC to help solve your problems .

Alright then Mr. Rod... So you're saying that I should check the connections to ensure that they are free of corrosion and that the have a good solid connection. I can do that without even opening the hood. Sorry guys.
