ClassicStyle, have you purchased new strut inserts? If not I can make you a wicked deal on complete struts & rear shocks. Newer and very low milage. $200 US plus shipping for all 4 corners.

OP, just buy these instead of messing with it. You will save yourself a ton of trouble.

I had no idea. I only have bits and pieces of a 944, not an actual whole car. The only other car I've had experience with that has struts is my Audi, and that has coil-overs installed by the previous owner. I'm mot sure if that would make them different or not.

Welp, guess I forgot to check back in on this. So I fixed it. Drilled a 5/16" hole in the bottom, used a punch and drove out the old shock absorber. Both sides needed it, so both sides got it.

Heat didn't work, they were rusted together. =/

I've not welded up the bottom, and probably won't until they come off the car permanently.

I picked up a pair of shock absorbers off Amazon for $30/ea, and they do the job nicely until I decide to upgrade when I put a late model ford or chevy engine in it.

Thanks to everyone for the info and feedback, love being a part of this community.
