Incredible interior on that car, wow! Are you planning on driving this car or were you looking to buy something rare? I have a AGP code transmission that I will sell you for a good price and you can use that to build the LSD into and keep the original transmission on the side.PM me if interested.

more importantly, post some pics when you get it. It really is nice to find a car that clean

I think I'm going to have Jerry Woods shop do the transmission/LSD for me in a few months. There calendar is totally booked. Busy shop. Let me ask them if I should buy this or just change out the differential in the current trans. I don't know enough right now to know what's best. And I'm going to keep the car looking stock. Keep it garaged, and use it as a second car. And take it to Laguna Seca and Sears Point once a year. And I wasn't looking for something rare, I just wanted a clean example. When I got a look at the interior, I switched from the 944 I was going to buy in Florida with 32,000 miles to this one.

Since you're in the SF bay area you might give James Osborne at Sprint Auto Works in San Jose a call, he did an LSD transplant into my AOS gearbox last year and was reasonable. He specializes in Audis but of course the 944 gearbox was manufactured by Audi.

If you're looking to keep it as close to stock as possible you should get in touch with Dimi Paralanov (he's on this site) since he rebuilds the original ZF units, 40% lockup. You can certainly spend more on a contemporary aftermarket LSD but I 'm trying to build using OE parts myself.

Awesome Purchase!

It's so weird to see what my Celebration Edition car looked like back in the day!

I bought mine a year ago, already mostly ripped up for track use. I just took it to its logical conclusion.

Not at all, but an LSD transmission was an option. It isn't common and anyone racing the cars will usually need to have one installed. They were originally manufactured by ZF, the same folks who made the power steering racks.

Nothing wrong with them. 35 years later there are advances in technology available as mentioned but if you're trying to reproduce an original car and the driving experience that goes with it, you may want to find a ZF LSD.

Edit: "If you're trying to reproduce an original car and the driving experience that goes with" a 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner of the '91 IMSA Firehawk series, "you may want to find a ZF LSD." And buy some ping pong *****...

A Limited Slip Differential totally changes how the car behaves at the limit for the better, its not a cheap option to do with a Porsche (no surprise there!) but I think it would be money well spent

I managed to do one for about $2500, parts and labor. It's not something a semi-professional does on their own, the tool costs alone can be over $4000 and if you screw it up you lose the transmission and parts ($3000 if you're re-cycling an existing TX, $7000 if you're buying a used box and new parts). Not something you want to learn on unless your best friend happens to be an Audi TX expert.

Congratulations! That is a very nice car indeed, incredible interior. Didn't even know that version existed until now.

You guys were right, I don't need a LSD. I owned a 944S2 25 years ago and forgot about a 944 NA having lower power. So, the current differential will be just fine.
Crooked racer, thanks for the link. I looked through your site and it was good to see and learn from all you've been through.
It's been so fun to look though all the records the car came with. They are all there since the 944 was new. Even the original bill of sale to see what the first owner paid for the vehicle. Original window sticker. I also have all the records of ownership. Original owner parted was with the car in 2014. All the original owners manuals and books were included. All the original stereo equipment. The medallion is mounted in the glovebox. I received a whole bin full of binders, logs, receipts, and it all was completely organized. Wow, I've purchased several Porsches and other high end sports cars and never bought one documented as well as this 944.

And the 944 has all original glass. I just didn't expect it to have the original windshield after all these years.

For mrgreenjeans: my 944 does't have headlight washers. Does't have cruise control which was a surprise. My 1989 944S2 had it, so I thought this car might as well. No big deal to not have it.
