Default Rebuilding power steering rack on 1989 951

I'm in the midst of rebuilding my power steering rack using the Pelican Parts DIY guide to assist me. I'm up to the part where it says I'm supposed to: "Next, you want to separate the rack tube from the housing. There is a ring on the tube that you will need to use a punch and hammer and turn the ring (red arrow) until you can separate the two."

I have been working with a punch and a hammer for an hour and nothing is happening. Anyone have any ideas to help me with this??

Thanks guys.

Make sure you are working it in the right direction. Check the video at about the 5 minute mark to confirm.

Use a bigger hammer if you need to.

Sure! A good penetrating oil (crud oil or equiv. - forget WD40), heat and lots of patience. Make to use an aluminum punch to prevent messing up the lock ring. It took me days but it finally gave up...

After doing it a few times with a hammer and punch, I got sick of it and made this tool:
