Worried about over heating.

Tried making a test louver.

But in the end, due to time constraints, I just raised the back of the hood & I might need to pull the cowl seal.

Here's my teammate & top navigator D'Arcy from this weekend's rally.

So, nearly 600 kms of Rally and not a single mechanical.

...Unless you include the wiper washer pump that decided not to work. At that moment, I thought we'd not be allowed in, but we dodged the bullet! A great way to start the morning!

We weren't the only ones representing... here's a father and daughter team in their '78. Cool color.

Even though it seems calculators never die. Ours did... oh yeah, and Wilson's ODO died & I couldn't get it to work (which is very bad for this type of event), but fortunately D'Arcy used his phone as a GPS based reset-able ODO. Worked awesome! And we we able to use my phone as a calculator.

There were some near misses! And our tires sucked in the thick mud after the hail... but not once did we have to stop. Other people had bad misfortune (slidding off the road/blowin' CV joints etc), but the Porsches marched through in spectacular style.

Ok, close to spectacular for a couple of dudes from the country. We ended up scoring in the upper half overall and 2nd in our class, so happy with that.

------------

It's been a while & lots of stuff going on. Been having some good runs with Wilson the magnificent. I finally kind of have the garage somewhat usable & the wife is pretty happy, so I'm happy too. Wilson finally gets parked for repairs & so on.

Needs a paint job and a re-fresh, since it was really thrown together for the last rally. Wilson performed lovely, however I need to address exhaust that keeps breaking. Also the crappy hood that I've been using is being upgraded to one in better condition.

Just came from a longtime Rallyists' business in Calgary Alberta www.rallysport.ca

He said this. Priorities:
1. Safety
2. Reliability
3. Driving
4. Tires
5. Suspension
6. Horsepower

Just found this thread. Pretty awesome stuff! Keep us posted! Always fanaticised about a dual purpose rally car-like build. Maybe one day..

My friend and I were joking but semi serious about doing a dedicated 924S rally build with or without an 07k Audi 5 cylinder swap and figuring out how we'd do it. Doesn't actually seem that bad.. We couldn't think of a better way to spend the same sort of money we estimated it would cost.

Surprised there's as much support for it as there is in both Alberta and BC.. Seems to fly under the radar though. I'm sure you've seen all of the websites for events and everything but just in case you haven't these were where I was looking..

https://carsrally.ca/crc-info/event-calendar/

http://www.rallybc.com/

https://www.rallywest.com/events

Enter the CRC! They've got a good amateur category. Can't remember what they call it though.

Thanks Homey!

I'm not hardcore in the least, but the off tarmac driving does take it's toll. Pic quality is crapola but anyway:

CV boot split open (was only 2 years old):

Big exhaust dents:

More exhaust dents:

Broken rear mounts from German Dansk muffler:

-Rear sway loosening at links. Decided to remove it and test drive without:

Absolute freaks of nature.

Next navigational rally is in around 4 weeks.

It is "through the night"... meaning we start at 7pm Sat and end at breakfast time. 650 kilometers (70% off pavement). That's brutal.

But epic.

Okay.. okay. I just couldn't throw this out. Not without first trying out something I've wanted to accomplish for 2 years.

Worse case scenario this banged up white hood gets tossed & I use the silver one. My main problem is the louver dies for my bead roller don't cut this thick grade of aluminum. So Midnight says "Get creative. Get it done".

MIDNIGHT is the "shop boss" of Wilson Racing headquarters. Everybody does what the shop boss says. Midnight is quite ready to tell you when your doing it wrong. He's always high strung (because of the stress) ... but a good team leader and he runs a tight ship.

He takes his job too seriously it seems. Relax man!
