Saw that as well.

Interesting to note he started the 'ask' at around what the car sold for new. BUT, considering the value those 1986 dollars are worth today, that 'ask' price isn't too goofy. In my opinion, with the amount one would need to put into it to bring it around to driving / show condition, including tires, new vinyl rock guards, brake fluid flush and most likely some slave, master cylinders (notice how dry that reservoir is ?), front engine service and all that goes with THAT, well....... you would easily spend some money and have over 30 into it.

BUT, look what great bones a guy would start with ! And, that mileage !

I also note he has dropped the 'ask' to 20. Wonder if he would throw in that blue Chevelle in the background for a package deal ?

Thanks for posting that up pcar !

When that poster showed the Monroney sticker for the red car, it shows some options nearly identical to mine. But, no sport touring pkg or sport seats, emphasizing Porsche's position on bundling groups of options creating value for the buyer and moving parts bin items at the same time.

The red car is very well equipped indeed......

Thanks Joe !

Oatie was born in the woods west of my 105 year old house, under a broken off tree stump with another tomcat and his sister, a runt. Sable. His brother is Bobcat with Serval/ Bengal markings and a total lack of fear to water. Close to a twenty pounder. The mother was a muted Calico who showed up roaming the farm several weeks before I left on a trip to Montana thru the Rockies....... pics of which I posted earlier in this thread.

I came back to find the feral stray mother looking very thin, having given birth, and now accepting of a hand, eating from the cat food I left out for her. Her demeanor changed from a wild stray who would run as soon as she saw someone in the yard or swipe at you drawing blood, to a totally changed animal. She actually became fully domesticated.

Yes Joe, sometimes a guy needs to regroup a bit after a track session or a day of running the hills, carving the curves. It's no shame..... a part of life and living.

Two guys in their late 70's are still driving in our club D.E. events and are VERY skilled track enthusiasts.

I should be that fortunate in my upcoming - later years.

~ inspiring.

( give Jerry a rub on the back and a pat on the head for me )

the story of that 4,000 mile '86 on the 'bird' must be similar to the one behind this low mile 951 seen a couple weeks ago in the park at our All Porsche show.

It had just roughly double that in miles accumulated, due to the owner's illness and subsequent death. Another '86 in Guards Red / Black but with very few option codes on this 951. It had just been brought back into the realm of the 'living' by Auto Edge, our premier local 944 specialists. It was in a word:

Spectacular

Oh man.. looking through my photos now but I think I somehow overlooked that car at the show. I never cared for the 15" phone dials on the NA but the 16" on the turbo really look great. Looks like it has a Blaupunkt Reno versus the more commonly seen Monterey, were different head units options or did porsche just randomly select from a variety radios in stock?

The one takeaway I've learned from owning and driving many classic cars... is that there's no substitute for a crisp low mileage car. Worth the price premium every time.

Oh yes, I so totally agree with you on that observation.

AND, so much cheaper in the long run if buying a used sportscar with known high dollar maintenance items, replacement values on soft trim items such as those leather seats. OR the Berber Tweed. Well, ..... just about on anything Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Corvette, Audi specific.

This early turbo was parked on the north row of the parking lot by the entrance west of the tent used for check in. Right next to Brian F.'s '86 turbo in Guards Red.

And yes I believe it was a Reno in this car. I talked with the guy who was the current owner's son. He told me the story as well as showing me the build code tag and it had like maybe 3 codes on it. The car had 13,000 actual miles.

I don't think Porsche placed whatever stereo on the shelf they had, but had a specific detail for each car with an order for it from someone. Dealer, owner in waiting, someone.
I have one 944 which was specifically ordered WITHOUT a stereo, but it also had lots of other deletes, specified by the fellow who wanted it that way. I think there may have been a few which came stateside without a unit installed, THEN got a stereo via the parts counter guy for a 'lot filler' car. And 'lot boy' got to put it in.

The Monterey is a really great stereo and so is the Reno, but the edge really does belong to the higher value model unit.

But, there are better units aftermarket. Or as alluded to in my previous post about the BOSE unit in Corvettes. Or JBL units in some vehicles currently new on the market. I am a bit ashamed to admit, but the stereo in my Highlander (JBL) is far superior to any Blaupunkt from the 80's, 90's, and 2000s. It isn't until I sat in a new Panorama and listened to the quality one could now get from Porsche that I was truly impressed.

Of course it does amount to what ? Another 10 or 12 thousand ? It should sound good.

Pcarfan:

If you wish, please post up an image of your 944 and tell us about it. I know I have seen it at Cars and Coffee, but refresh my memory.... and for those reading here for the first time about your collection of greats.

Actually, I think you know my car better than you realize. I sold it to your friend Nick briefly last Spring, and bought it back a few months later. He said you had your sights on it

This August will mark my 13th year with the car. Bought it with 99,833 miles on August 20th, 2003 and it currently has 137,683 as I type. I wanted a 944 so badly at the time that those numbers are forever immortalized in my mind.

The paint was pretty oxidized, there was a dent in the passenger fender, but a brand new clutch and a near flawless interior were the selling points for me.

So I had the timing belt retensioned, motor mounts replaced, and a week later crossed my fingers and embarked on a 300 mile voyage up to UMC on badly worn tires. The first of many adventures I would have with the car. In hindsight, I was nuts to sell and am absolutely elated to have it back. Realized you can't put a price on sentimental value. On the same token, the way a nicely sorted Porsche 944 feels, pretty special, and after all this time I'm still taken aback after every drive.

This photo was taken on August 18th, 2003 when I first saw the car at the seller's house. Feels like it could have been last week.

This was taken on Oct 24th, 2015, the day I drove it back from North Dakota.

Hard to believe it's the same car, with the same paint, but it is. My only regret is trading the original SQR 23 radio towards the fuchs (factory 15" with a 911 part number) back in 2007 and selling the phone dials soon after, but such is life. So hey, if you ever have a spare Blaunpunkt Monterey to sell

Sweet looking car and good story PCarfan. Once took me 9 years to get a firearm back I foolishly sold. Smiled the whole way home bringing it back to be tucked away again in my gun safe.
MGJ I gave Jerry that rub and pat on the head, he said thanks by way of purring Great story about Oatie and family. I think rescued critters actually convey they are grateful, Jerry seems to do so by the way he looks at Judy and me at times.

Pcar...

I have photos of your 944 at a 'Pars and Cars' show last June.... Nick B. getting out of it as he had parked next to my '89 - 951.

I will go thru my memory cards and search for them later today. Am headed to Pelican Rapids in a few minutes for their annual Turkey Roast, Vintage Car show, Parade, etc. Not participating, but thinking of driving an old muscle car (Ford) and meeting up with my brother and his wife. There is a guy who always brings a stellar California Porsche, a '68 - 912 and I hope he's there again. Hope to post a few images tonite, as the setting in that Lake country by the River is gorgeous ...... some phenomenal cars in that area.

Which town did you find your 944 in ND ? I may know the original owner as well, if nearby. There were once 12 of them around Prairiewood in Fargo in various shades of trim, around that 2.5 mile circle; many Dr. owned, two were owned by track enthusiasts and competitors. Mine and my previous mailman's car are the only two left altho neither are kept there. They are the soul survivors of two very long term owners..... ( you will cry if I tell what happened to several. )

Joe, since you are on f/b I know you have seen my photos of the other vermin clan. All rescues; many showing up right before winter looking bad. Needing help, food, shelter. Don't know where they all came from because it's miles away thru territory filled with coyote and wolf, to get to the next farm. And they LOVE cats and small dogs.

They have it made now /-:

I have seen a wolf/coyote hybrid and her pups in the yard, early during dog walks, but they can't get the cats. All are inside an old bunkhouse , shed, or house; safe from the jaws of their apex predators.

The setting for the show... a great park along the River, a small pooling of a lake from backup as it spills over a dam, and some Ford 'muscle' from a local vintage owner and PCA member, with ownership of a grouping of Porsches as well.

The 912 was the only Porsche there today among some very great vintage iron. Note it is a 4 speed, not a 5 in the photo in earlier post

not a Porsche (-;
but a really, REALLY great year for a Vette. Another friend brought his 35 year 'stored' garage find, found in the middle of ND.

ALL o.e.m.
we're still working on him to come into the light

Oh Lordy, that 63 is to die for. The rear view of that gorgeous split window is one of the sexiest designs ever.

Jay told me rather than convert the original fuel injection system to carbs due to the long storage issues ( the system has a compensating device within the mechanical inner workings to adjust for altitude ) , he sent it away to a professional and well known fuel injection rebuilder. The cost of the rebuild was over $ 5,000 but retained the originality along with a bump in value upward of $75-80,000 over a carb conversion. Yeah, it's kind of a high dollar car......

yikes

The vehicle has a few issues like some color change or shifting in the paint, as it is all original, but the vehicle is remarkable.

Even shockingly so.

But personally I really love the silver roadster more, with those same knockoffs I showed sitting next to my '86 back on page one. That car moves me even more emotionally than the split.

Great cars all
