Unhappy Motor mount woes

Feels like I have a blown motor mount (hard start and shut down, rough idle, rough again around 4,200 RPM, etc.). Passenger side is my guess. Only thing is, I did everything right. 5 years ago I ordered a set of update 951 OEM mounts from a well-known, reputable vendor. It took me a year before I installed them. I chased the threads as recommended. Heat shield is in place. Proper length bolts.

I DD the car, so after a little more than a year, it was time to do the belts again (30,000 miles.) About 100 miles after the TB job, the cam sprocket spun and the subsequent valve crash parked the car for 18 months. It's been back on the road for 11 months.

I'm also chasing a substantial oil leak.

I guess this time I'm putting in semi-solid mounts and loading urethane in my trans mount. The maintenance is starting to stack-up on me. Sigh...

Tip: You can also urethane inject factory oil filled mounts once they fail. Instant solid mount that will never fail. Been running urethane filled OEM mounts and a DIY urethane trans mount in my 951 for years. The NA road car gets standard mounts.

Thanks Doug..didn't know about the urethane fill on the engine mounts. I'll keep that one in mind.

Thanks, Doug, good tip. I'll use it in the short-term. Btw, all the updated mounts have a 951 part number.

Welcome to owning a 30-year old performance/luxury car! But some of us think it's worth it.

I know. I've had it going on 6 years. I've pulled it apart and put it back together to varying degrees a few times. I've just been unusually busy at work the last few months. Then I finally get a vacation and our house flooded (again.) I thought I'd get some time with it this past week, but no such luck. No luck at all it seems.

I didn't think the maintenance ever ended. I believed we just got better at fixing things.

Turns out it wasn't my MM. Last week I did my wp, belts & rollers. I found one of the bolts on the alternator tensioner sheared off. It was the bolt towards the center of the engine. The tensioner was able to wedge itself against the mount and stay. All the troublesome vibrations are gone. Seems the bolt hole in the mount is a bit stripped. The bolt threads in, but won't tighten down. I'll helicoil it and that should be that.

Glad to hear that the MM is still intact...Doug glad to learn about the urethane fix on the mounts. What kind of urethane did you use? Great stuff?

Can someone give more information on this? It looks like energy suspension has a pourable PU kit. How long did it take to set before reinstall? Im not sure Im that patient. Probably buy something that I can just replace and mod the originals later.
