You know, life takes turns for all of us. I believe that it was sitting for a while and he knew that it would be a process to get running, so it sat for even longer.

Is it a sunroof delete ?
A low mileage car such as this is such an extreme rarity, it would be worth it to limit mileage and show this car or concours it only, buy another to drive, as they are only original just once. Patina earned on such a car is a real treasure.
CONGRATULATIONS

Still though, rebuild the engine and keep it pristine if time has been good to it. The miles certainly have. That is a classic color and could be worth quite a bit now and in the future. Even the non Turbo 944s, clean, unmolested examples are fast becoming collector cars.
Or, sell it to me for what you paid and I'm take care of it for you.

Great story, great memories and great car. My 84 purchased in 2010 from original owner had 22,000 and I thought it was low mileage but your 83 has to blow everyone out of the water. Mine still had the original belts. Those and all cooling system hoses were replaced but all other rubber was good as new. Proper storage out of the weather and sun makes all the difference.

Incredible car, can't wait for more photos. As others have said it would be terrible to turn this into a track car even if the engine was bad. You can never find another like this nor replace the memories this one has.

I think you should drive it once it's running. Not as a daily driver, but don't make it sit. It's had enough of that. Take to PCA events. The car looks to be in very good shape. I think you should take it to the Porsche Parade next year and enter it in the preservation class in the concours.

Attached is a pic of the front seat and an interior shot of the sunroof. Yes, it does smell 1980's new.
It does have a manual sun roof too. I have not yet opened it.

First, a quick correction. In my original post I listed the paint color as Saffire Metallic. However, according to the window sticker its spelled: "Sapphire Metallic". I tend to spell the way I pronounce words. Lol
When I return from traveling I will take some additional pics of the car in the shop and some of the little items that came with the car. E.g. I have the original build sheet, all books and records, an original sealed OEM Porsche cloth to lubricate the power antenna, the OEM tool kit with all the tools in unused original condition and the leather bag for the sunroof, all of which are in new condition. Its pretty cool.
Turns out, in Michigan, I can "authenticate" a 1983 license plate and use it on the car so long as the car is used only for show purposes. So I have a 1983 license plate and will apply to Authenticate the plate with the Secretary of State next week.
I also spoke with the prior owner about the floor mats that where in the car when we rolled it out of his garage. The car had what looks like a vintage set of "coco-mats". They are in really good condition, but they are not OEM. I asked the prior owner and he said that the car didn't come with floor mats, so he purchased an aftermarket set. The prior owner stated that he recalls that the after market coco mats that he purchased tended to slide around while he drove so he recommended that I replace them.
Not sure if Porsche offered a floor mat option for 1983 944's. I searched online for a 1983 OEM floor mat, but I couldn't find any so I don't know if floor mats were an option for 1983 944's. I assume yes, but wonder why the prior owner didn't get them. They could have been very expensive in 1983. Of course I can buy any floor mat listed online and there are many that would fit and says "Porsche" on them, but I would like to keep the car as 1983 period correct OEM / stock as possible.
So, does anyone have details on what a 1983 944 OEM floor mat looks like? I know its a minor detail, since I am traveling and have some computer time, I wanted to ask and search.
Thanks!
