Hello all, I'm Jacob and I'm an addict. Addicted to old cars that is. As of a month ago, I became the new owner of a fairly nice 1983 944 NA,

1983 944 NA purchased for $500

And as of three days ago, i became the owner of a 1986 944 parts car.

1986 944 NA purchased for $600

As to my question, I was pulling parts off the 86 when i noticed a connector labelled as cruise control. Now I know the late model uses a different switch on the steering column, but can a late model cruise control system be swapped into an early model without a ton of work?

I wasn't aware that *any* of the early models had cruise control - because they don't have the electronic speedometer.

(Meaning there's no wiring harness for the switch, computer, actuator, etc.)

Yep, at least a few of the early models have cruise control- My 1984 has it, though it's non-functional like it is on virtually every other 944 I've ever seen.

Not exactly sure how it gets the info it needs to be able to maintain a speed, though... Once I get some more immediate stuff buttoned up, it's on the list.

I think i might just leave it stock without the cruise control, I'm used to not having cruise control on long trips, neither my 66 Corvair or my 81 C10 have it, or much of any luxuries for that matter

This makes me happy to know I am not the only one!

I should get a Cruise Control-less stalk cluster, so I don't get reminded of having a failed subsystem.

Jon had one! Now, it is probably triple the price since he sold his parts.

Functioning cruise control seems to be about as common as functioning AC. Namely, I've heard legends of them functioning for someone, somewhere, in ideal conditions...
