Oil Temp Gauge Wiring
Hey guys, I bought myself a VDO oil temp gauge for my 951. I want to put it under the stereo in the center console. What is the best place to splice the wiring into? I'm thinking the cigarette lighter, as it has a constant 12V and a power source that is only on when the interior lights are on for the gauge lighting. Any body done this before? Or is there a better spot to splice into? Cheers.

Alright, for those that search for this topic in the future I'll share what I ended up doing.
The ash tray has a convenient light bulb that I never noticed before but is perfect for providing the power source for gauge lighting. I simply cut the bulb and socket off, pulled the wires through to the centre console, and then I crimped on some female blade connectors and plugged them onto my gauge lighting pins.
For the gauge power source, I spliced into the radio's power source as suggested by carlege. So in the end I didn't have to take apart any of the dash, and it was a pretty easy job. I tested the gauge sensor in a bucket of boiling water and it reads accurately. Just need to find a spot in the firewall to route the sensor wire, and the job will be complete.

I also used the radio for power. For lighting, sometimes the radio gets an illumination wire which can be used, and if not, any random console light wire works.
