Default Porsche 944 Turbo/951 Steel-Sleeved 1986 Engine block

For sale is a 1986 Porsche 944 turbo engine block, fitted with steel sleeves. Looking to get $600 plus shipping costs, will ship internationally. I am open to offers and local pickup.

Looking for $600 plus shipping for this package:
- complete sleeved block (w/ bal shaft stuff and crank girdle, and ARP/raceware studs/nuts)
- 2.5 crankshaft suitable for offset grinding
- 1986 951 oil pan from this block.

I had bought this block with hopes of building my own "hybrid stroker" engine, but do not foresee myself doing such a serious build any time soon.

This block was sleeved 15 or so years ago on behalf of KOKELN RACING for a car they were building. It was built for the old "GT3" class with displacement limited to 2.6L. This block was sleeved and bored to 4.00"/101.6mm to maximize displacement under the rules as well as make use of less expensive, off-the-shelf SBC/SBF pistons/rings.

This block has a lot of time/hours/mileage on it and now has cylinder taper of about 0.005", my machine shop recommended taking it to 4.020" or even 4.030" to get the bores straight and fresh - this still allows you to use off-the-shelf domestic V8 pistons. Block will include balance shafts and balance shaft covers and other parts that must match the block.

In the second picture you will see a repaired crack on the corner of the block - I bought the block like this, but knowing the long and successful racing history of this engine I would have no concerns or second thoughts about the integrity of the block. If the block doesn't sell in this auction I will just hold onto it for my own build sometime in the future.

This block can yield the following displacements/combinations:
2.6L with 944 2.5 crankshaft
2.9L with 944 3.0 crankshaft
2.8L with 944 2.5 crank, offset ground to 85mm stroke
3.1L with 944 3.0 crank, offset ground to 94mm stroke

for the 2.6 liter, what are your options as far as rods and pistons? are there off the shelf sbc pistons out there can be made to work with stock rods? if not, are we talking custom rods?

there's a few options...
early LS engines had piston pins the same size (24mm) as the 944 so you could use those pistons from a 4" bore engine.

or, you could get a pin bushing made for the end of the porsche rod to fit the SBC pin.
or, you might be able to just drill the SBC piston to accept the Porsche pin, it's less than half a millimeter difference.
or, have the crank slightly ground to fit small-journal Chevy (2"/50.8mm vs 52mm 944) rods and Chevy piston/pins.

Yes.
There was a person who was tentatively committed but they haven't paid yet.
I also have 2x 968 cranks needing rod journal work available if you want to make a stroker or hybrid stroker engine.

My interest is to build a hybrid engine, I may be interested in a 3.0 crank too.

I would need the block and stuff shipped to Ireland, Europe however.

Is it possible to PM you on Rennlist ?

I can ship to Ireland without a problem, but it will be horrifically expensive.

The complete block and the crankshaft combined are around 130-140lbs (60kg or so)...

I'll check out some options on my side, if you have a contact that can give you a quote it would be greatly appreciated.

I can source a crank over this side of the water without great difficulty, so if it were to make a difference to the shipping I could do without it.

I could build a good crate at about 18" x 18" x 30". (45x45x75 cm)
