Default Question about deleting balance shaft pullies

It's been a year & a half without the belt, now that I have the timing cover off I thought to myself "remove the balance shaft pulley". So I did.

But would appreciate if anyone knows I'm at risk of oil leaking without # 1,2,3,4, 5a/5b attached.

Thank you. Sorry rennlist for posting another company's picture, I just thought it was the clearest way to communicate.

Wow. I've posted this on 2 forms & no one has an answer. I think it'll work. Gonna give it a try I guess.

Without the BB Belt, the common result is a vibration.

Since you started with 944online, this is Ian and his information:

CAUTION: Oil Pickup tube may crack!

Mine have been deleted since before I owned the car. The shafts are gone too which is a slightly different scenario. A little oil leaks from the upper housing, not a ton though. Certainly less than an air cooled 911...

hahaha... 944 for the win!

Thanks for the pick tube warning (I have previously accounted for that).
I guess most peaple replace the shafts with a proper kit or run 'em normally with a belt, not a in-between like I do. But hey

The proper way to do a B/S delete remove shafts, housings, seals, etc, weld over oil ports, then most importantly, have the entire rotating assembly balanced, ( this is ideal for racing applications)

Thanks for the link Kev,

I found the info especially interesting for relating how a proper plugging of the B.S. oil gallery helps improve crank lubrication.

Can someone explain to me why can I not completely delete the bs housings & shafts? I no longer use power steering, so eliminating that bracket is a plus.

Less is more as far as I can tell.

If no PS then you can remove the whole shebang. Just make sure you weld/fill all the oil holes!

You'll find the block suddenly ripe with study bolt holes to make interesting accessory brackets and things too..lol

That's great news fellas. It'll save a good chunk of weight and open up the bay a bit for easier wrenching. That'll be the plan then.

Even with ps, if you weld over the oiler ports you are good to go.. just balance everything if it's all disassembled
