Default Rust on subframe, not rusted through but can't let it get any worse

There's rust on the subframe (actually this is an '02 A4 (B6) 3.0L na quattro but this board has more/better activity so...) and no areas are rusted through and it's not quite flaking but it's borderline flaking.

There are too many areas too deep in to feasibly go in and sand down then body filler then paint simply because some of the areas are too hard to reach.

I understand there's some Rustoleum-made spray to remove the partially forming particles in order to prepare it to take a coat of regular Rustoleum.

Is this the best course of action, what would you recommend?

You might try some "extend" rust inhibitor prior to painting with POR 15....I think most stores carry it in a blue can..works good in converting the rust to an non-oxidative state..The POR 15 will fix the rest..Both are good IMHO.

Could find neither Extend nor Por15 locally, best I can do over here is a three pronged removal:
1. Scrape with drill wheel
2. Rust remover spray
3. Rust reformer spray

Then coat with Rustoleum ultra cover (as shown from left to right)

Will the above work or do I need to order Extend and Por15 online?

just like the early, vw/Audi 924/Scirocco, these are ostensibly, throwaway cars.

how many Audis on the road that are 20+ years old?

Order this

Don't even waste your time with rattle can "solutions." The super starter kit is good for ~6 sq feet, you should be fine. It even includes the degreaser, prep, even the brushes and latex gloves. 10/10 would recommend, worked great for me and many others.

If there are areas you can't get at then perhaps spray some oil based inhibitor in ther once you are finished with the POR. I use ACF-50 corrosion block on everything underneath my car. Fuel lines, suspension etc

Yes, mechanically remove whatever you can. You want the POR15 to have maximum contact with fresh metal.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking but didn't have the words for at the first reading of this thread.
