I'm not sure if I will be in town. AZ PCA is heading to Vegas for the weekend. I'm trying to decide if I am going to go.

I said I was going to start wrapping the easier sections and work up to the more complex shapes.

I LIED!!!!!!

968 mirrors are not an easy shape to wrap. Here is my second attempt. I don't know how to get the inner curves any smoother. I'm hoping they won't be very noticeable.

Excuse the crappy cell phone pics.

Paint or plastidip won't match the rest of the car. I've done a few things in plastidip and I hate it. I won't use it again.

I just need more practice with vinyl wrap. This was just the second piece of vinyl I've ever touched. I think it looks pretty good for my second time.

Are you using any heat to help smooth the vinyl around the corners?

Yes, heat stretch, heat stretch, heat stretch, repeat, repeat, repeat.

There is just a lot of vinyl to bring from a bigger space on the outside of the mirror to the smaller space on the inside of the mirror.

The second one looks a lot better. It is not perfect but it is close.

The front bumper cover is going to be a challenge but the rest of the car will be easier.
These mirrors were arguably the most complex shapes on the whole car.

Started pulling the transmission to install the long 5th gear set from an early 944 NA.
Stage 8 locking bolt clips are a PITA to remove.

I haven't done much to my car lately because I am rebuilding another Ariel Atom.
It was a beautiful green Atom and the owner introduced it to a wall at Inde Motorsports park in southern Arizona. Now we are waiting on a new frame and a bunch of other parts.
I'm also working on replacing the right side suspension on a spec race Atom. Another close encounter with a wall.

The Atom is apart and waiting for the new frame and parts from TMI.
Rebuilding the right side suspension for another Atom that had a close encounter with a wall.

I have the transmission apart and it is NOT good news. The nose of the pinion gear has two chipped teeth and one of the third gear teeth is chipped on the input shaft. Was the pinion gear in the AOR hardened like 1st and 2nd gears?

Time to find some replacement gears.

You should use clear lenses to cover the headlights but let the stuff inside be visible. It would look great compared to the squinty look it has now.
Agreed, especially with the rear of the S2 being much higher. Maybe the AIR front splitter would be a better choice. That splitter overwhelmes the S2 nose. More for a race car.

The splitter looks much more prominent because of the contrast with the black bumper cover. Once I get everything to the same color, it will blend in much more than it does now.

Working on the transmission.

Forget the "what's in your wallet" commercials, the bigger question is what is in your shop?

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic.

Yes, they are the real deal. JS drove the top one twice in 73 on his way to the F1 championship and Denny Hulme drove the bottom one on the way to second place in the 72 Can-Am championship.

The Atom parts are in so I am in the middle of rebuilding that.

I'm finally buying the transmission parts and will be sending everything out for a complete transmission rebuild.

And I bought a 914 project.
