A 951 with the stock 26/6, no cat, no exhaust leaks (now thats a rare bird!) and a MAF actually spools up fairly quickly i think. Its not like the n/a or S2 in terms of throttle response or feeling of instant torque but its not terrible. I get what you mean though by the difference in feel. Coming from an 8v n/a it took some getting used to the 951. I prefer the throttle response of all motor personally even comparing to newer turbo cars (Subies, Evo's..etc). The 951 always felt sluggish even with a lightened flywheel. The difference in response between my '88 911 3.2L and 951 is significant.

I have a well sorted LS swapped 951 in NY if you want to see what it feels like (its awesome!). I will say though that even the LS1 is a little slow on the throttle response despite a lightened flywheel... its just a big lope of an engine i guess. And i am 50/50 on selling it also if interested... its red though .

I will say merging on the highway with a 951 with 2nd to 3rd gear was always a thrill. I think 3rd could not have been geared anymore perfectly for the 951.

And btw, a 951 makes for an excellent grand touring car. It cruises extremely well at highway speed and has plenty of passing power in 5th without the need to shift. If your willing to drop down a gear its even better. The lag is only something you will notice driving around town.

I agree fully. Having had a car with a full exhaust and a maf kit, the car spools up very quickly and pulls very well. I have since went back to the old afm and the lag is not horrible, but you will not be pulling out in front of people from a dead stop. They really are great cars and I think you will learn to deal with the lag if you end up buying one.

As others have said they make for a very good touring car with wonderful highway power.

You really can't have it both ways with a single turbo. Smaller turbos spool more quickly but limit your top end and ultimate power. Big turbos are slower to spool but can create more power. Twin scroll are somewhere in between. It's why you see most modern turbo cars with either a small single turbo or sequential twin turbos. I have a 996TT that is very nearly lag free, it simply feels like a bigger engine that will pull to infinity. But it definitely lacks the drama of a 951 or 930. My 951 is a Vitesse Stage 3 that definitely has lag, but pulls like a freight train above 3,000 RPM. All just a question of what experience you are looking for.

i once got to drive a 650-hp 996T - thing was in permanent freight-train mode from idle to 7000, around town and on the highway.
floor it in 5th gear at 70 and instantly youre doing 120...awesome.

Not even close! The 928 comfort seats are some of the most comfortable I've ever been in! The 911/944 seats doesn't even come close.

The 928 is much larger inside, far more leg room and adjustability, more luxury features!

928 has a MUCH more comfortable suspension.

928 will leave a 951 for dead at autobahn speeds. It will maintain ludacris speeds like its a walk in the park. While the 951 can do them it doesn't do them anywhere near as relaxed.

I was given a ride in a 650 HP TT, the acceleration was borderline painful. The way that it simply grips and launches is incredible. Otherwise it was a very docile car around town, which surprised me.
