Default WTB: ASAP! Rebuildable Strut Housing

Please let me know if you have a rebuildable front driver's side strut housing.

In the middle of front strut/spring replacement. If you are near the Albany, NY area even better! I will come and get it. Would love to get something this weekend. Let me know what you have.

Are you looking for a Sachs strut housing or a Koni? Not clear.

Sorry, should have been more clear.

I'm replacing the factory strut inserts on my '87 924S with Koni inserts. I need the factory strut housing.

If it's the same as a 951/968 factory strut housing, I have a pair for you. I am in NJ.

I believe they are different. If it's not too much trouble could you let me know the part number just to be sure?

Thanks!

Best bet for you is to check Pet and confirm.

None are the same.

924S uses same strut as 944/1...has threaded cap and uses different, replaceable, insert.

951 and 968, while different struts, both use sealed housings. Unless the strut is professionally rebuilt, the only way to replace that "insert" is to cut the housing open and gut its internals.

Potential differences among various 951/968 struts...internal valving, lower perch, spring lengths/diameters, and if I'm not mistaken, mounting flange/bolt geometry.

The OP needs a strut from another 924S or a 944/1.

Also spindle-clamp on 951/968 strut is 18mm. On the earlier ones with removable gland-nut, the spindle-clamp is 20mm. The hole-spacing on the spindle clamp is different as well as the angle.

It's easy to retrofit an earlier rebuildable strut to fit 951/968, not really possible to fit 951/968 struts on earlier cars without a lot of work.

I know you only need one but that's pretty inexpensive.
