flywheel damper
Hi
im interested in buying a 1986 944 auto, 135000 k.
owner says it been sitting for over a year as the flywheel has started to rattle and he couldn't afford to fix and there is rust marks around the water pump.
He also says that the engine had a full strip down at 120,000 k my other question is why would it need it.
Car and interior looks really nice and clean including the engine bay. There is some paint bubbling on the outer rear sills on both sides.
car has some service history up to 2012.
Whats your thoughts on it?
Regards

Three Wheelin'
I just did this job. It is not hard with the right tools. If you have jack stands, and hydraulic floor jack and set of metric tools you can do it. I have used damper for sale here in Japan.

I think ( from memory ) the correct" Auto Trans Only" flywheel area Dampner 944 116 065 02 is no longer available, the 968 Tip one ( similar) but not the same can be used ( if available ) or you can install a manual trans flywheel & complete clutch ( without the release bearing ) and this can be used as the coupler , however its a bit harsher in operation
The 120,00km engine dismantle , it may have been to rectify oil leaks ( who Knows ? ) , ask for receipts on the parts / labour used , this will explain all

This is what I did with my 87 Auto, I have not noticed that it is "harsher" in operation, but it was absolutely a lot less harsh on the wallet. I spent about $150 in used parts to make this change, opposed to the $1500 that a new damper was going to cost.
