Default Just an idea on making more HP

Just throwing out an idea that peaked my interest last night, and couldn't find much info.

But can anyone explain the cost and technical difficulties that would be involved in getting a 2.5L 16V 944 S engine and stroking/boring, caming and doing all the other engine work like porting, polishing and lightening parts to build the best 944 S engine because S2 and 951 engines and cars seem to be rising in price at a good pace.

oh and maybe (depending on cost) then slapping the 928 Performance's 968 Supercharger on the engine once its all done.

Anyone tried something like this?

Doing all that work to any motor would be more money than just buying a turbo motor. I think that's why it hasn't been done extensively.

Spit balling some market prices I've seen:

NA motor: $700
S motor: $1000
951 motor: $1200
968 motor: $3000

I think the work on the S motor would make it more expensive than a solid 968 engine which is tuned for 230hp stock or whatever it is.

I think you'd be looking at $1,000 to $1,500 for a good, usable S engine to start your build from. A pristine, low-miles engine might be worth more, but if you're building it up anyway, you don't really need a pristine low-miles engine.

I've been considering building up my S engine a bit, but it would definitely be cheaper to just drop in a used 968 engine. The only reason I'm keeping the S motor is that it's already in my car. Not that it's a bad engine, it isn't, but if you're going to go to all the trouble of swapping an engine, you might as well pay a little more up front and get the bigger, more powerful engine.

However, just my opinion - If I'm going to go to the trouble of swapping engines, I'm probably not going to put another Porsche engine back in. It'll definitely cost more to swap in an LS than it would to swap in a 968 engine, but the end result is much better (IMO)

Anyone tried something like this?
step 1) MAF conversion
2) hot cams
3) add displacement

port/polish isn't going to be necessary on a 944S head because it already will flow way more than the engine could use in mildly (or even heavily) modified form. the port shapes could be worked on a little bit but they are very good for what they are already.

the MAF conversion alone will unlock a lot of low and mid-range power that the standard 944S is lacking severely, and put you over 200bhp. the camshaft gains will depend on how extreme you want to go. WebCams makes a 944S grind for ~$1200 or so.
