I know I'm being stupid here but I'm looking at spending 5g for a 951. I'm not afraid if it needs mechanical work (I can't do body work). I also realize it will need the work and it won't likely be an S unless it's worn down severly.

I'm asking for a little help because my searches are bringing up mint 20k cars, race cars or parts cars or cars with no tittle. I've checked here, ebay and craigslist.

One on Craigslist seems too good to be true, 86 with lsd, adjustable suspension and 4500. Silver with tan leather interior. Needs hatch carpet and brakes. Fenders have rust on em at the bottom behind the wheels.

Is this really what 951 have come to? I recall a couple years ago there being an abundance of 5 to 8k 951s now it seems they're all gone. Am I searching at the wrong time, sping?

I had been on for a while while I owned my 8v but moved on in 2010 when I had an engine fire and got my other car going.

The value is often a matter of personal option. I've seen people buy a 951 for as low as 4k and all the way up to 17k. Many factors affect the 'value'. Condition, service records, maintenance performed, mileage, etc etc. I bought my 89 2+ years ago and on the higher side price wise. But I have all the service records, it has never broken down and the previous owner was a Porsche mechanic. He even gave me the original window sticker. To me it was money well spent. Previously I bought an 84 on the low side money wise and I got exactly what I paid for. It was always breaking down and I was constantly putting money into it.
What I learned is pay more now for a properly sorted car with all the records or you'll be spending nearly the same amount later to get the same end results.

Give it a month, I am sure more will pop on the market when cars come out of storage
