Default 924 guages & tachometers

My speedometer finally crapped out, and even though it probably just needs a new gear, I'm using it as an excuse to swap to the much nicer looking 924 gauge set.

My question involves the wiring. Can anyone confirm that these will plug up to my 83 harness? I would imagine the multi-gauge and speedo from a 924S would swap over but want to double check.

Which brings me to gauge 3, is there any wiring differences between the different tach options?

I think I like option 3 the best but option 2 is a close second. Will the lack of a mpg meter cause any issues?

IIRC the multi gauge wiring is different plug but you can make it work with some added wires
i have a few sets of 924 gauges if you need some.

I did some checking and you are correct, the multi-gauge comes in two plug patterns.

My 83 car has the circular plug. There are versions for 924 multi-gauges that have the circle plug and a two plug.

Circle plug (the one my car uses):

Dual plug:

I'm sure you could adapt any one of them to work but since all the options are available I might as well find one that will plug right in.

Well I pulled my gauges and found out why my speedo wasn't working:

I hope replacing the speedometer cable isn't too big of a pain...

The good news is I already have 2 924 gauges on the way and just need to find a multi-gauge with the correct plug on ebay. So even though my gauges weren't bad they will be looking much nicer once the cable is replaced and they go back in!

btw I went with option 2 on the tach.

Nice and rare all brown steering wheel !
I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing on my 924, not the brown but to move the tacho in the midle and use an early one like yours.
I have already test-fitted it on my spare dash.

Left is the standard 924 speedo, right is a modified 944 speedo to fit inside the 924 dash, it works with the 944S2 gearbox as my 924 has M030 drive train and no more wheel speedo.

That looks awesome! I'm planning on moving my tach to the center as well.

If you have that picture on how to wire the tach that would be great!

This is from board member Kirk from 944 online (his picture and instructions ). It helped me out quite a bit. It worked perfect for me. I made wire extensions so I could move the tac to the center.

"So if you are holding the gauge right side up and looking at the back from left to righ. t it should be Black-Skip-Green-Brown."
