Default Fuel injector suggestions

Does anybody have any suggestions on where I can get a good set of injectors for a 86 n/a? Or better yet, which aftermarket brands should I avoid?

You could send your existing set to Witch Hunter in Duvall, WA for rebuild. I just sent another set off and they turn them around in a week for less than $100. High quality work. Most Porsche guys here recommend them.

Dear Intruder: I have an ancient (83) 944..the injectors were all balled up into a pile of rust when I got it out of a guy's backyard..so I went down to my local AutoZone and bought 4 for about 50.00ea..I haven't tried them yet, but they are alleged to fit..I think they actually fit a Buick..and they come with a warranty, so if they don't work out just return them for a refund..they will look a bit different, but the will fit the head and the connectors look the same..other than that, go with Bosch injectors...They make them in Charleston, SC and are THE injector people. If yours aren't totally trashed, take them to a diesel injector shop for a rebuild..should be about 25.00 ea for cleaning and replacement of all seals and o-rings..at least that's what they get around here..(New Hampshire). If the injector is OK, they will return it to it's original spray pattern and throughput..jus sayin..Tiger 03447

I should have explained this before posting. One of my injectors developed a leak when I buttoned up the top end after replacing the head gasket. I tried to fix it by replacing the seals, but it didn't improve. So after reading this guys experience,

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...injectors.html

I came to understand that mine are not really rebuildable. So sending them to witchhunter wont help much as I still need to replace at least the leaky one if not the whole set. I don't have $1500 to spend right now and the rebuilt GB ones at Pelican have negative reviews.

Tiger, can you recall what name brand the ones you got from AZ were?

I'll be glad to check..but I think off the top of my head they were Sorenson..like most of their FI stuff..I'll have to check at my shop and get back to you tonite. I'll give you the part # also so that may cut down on the search...they were about 50-60 each if I remember correctly...now that was for my 83 NA..yours may be different...if I go by the store today I'll check it out for you...for tonite...thanks, Tiger 03447

Dear Intruder: OK, I checked with the store..It is a Sorenson part special order (prepaid) P/n 800-1423N our price is 87.00 ea..your store may be different in the pricing, because AZ does it by regions of the country...but this should get you in the ballpark..Thanks,Tiger 03447

1. Do Bosch/Mustang5 injectors fit Porsche 944NA cars? They do for various BMW models with similar Bosch injection systems, so might also fit the 944.

2. Before spending serious coin on new or refurbished injectors, it might be worthwhile to try this cheap trick:

or this, similar:

By heating the barrel of the syringe, its plastic may be stretched to snugly fit the injector O ring, without trimming the O ring diameter. Cut the flange off the plunger end of the syringe barrel with a knife.

Start by back-flushing the injector, to wash out any crud on its tiny internal screen, then reverse the injector for normal flow direction. Observe spray pattern and note any differences between injectors.

If you find any faults, then start spending money on pro shops or new injectors. Otherwise, your old injectors may be just fine.

Will cleaning repair a leak? If not, I'm not looking to spend time cleaning an injector that needs to be replaced. These links are good to know in case I ever need to clean in the future though.

Nope. But it will tell you if the basic function is OK, spray pattern, etc.

I mentioned the Bosch/Mustang5 injectors because they work fine with Bosch injection systems of that era, have 4 nozzle spray pattern instead of single nozzle, with better misting. I paid $30 shipped for a set of 6 for my E34 BMW, which then got ~10% better highway fuel economy, better idling, etc. I don't know if the Mustang injectors fit Porsche 944 NA cars, but it seems worth researching.

What about just buying a used set and rebuilding them? Presuming they don't leak. The rebuild kits are less than $5 per injector at your local auto parts store. I know the BWD brand works with our injectors for sure.

Also, the Sorenson stuff Tiger is talking about is fine, they're on the same level as AC Delco. I have a GP sorensen FPR in my car and its been fine, tested in spec many times now.

Just wanted to also say I was very happy with witchhunter. I thought I only had one bad guy, but they found a second had been leaking as well. Plus having a couple cruddy ones mixed with a couple brand new ones isn't a good thing. Flow matched is better.

I've been running the stock Bosch units but I have some new 80#ers from the rogue tuning kit to install. Not sure what brand, but they don't need any impedance magic.

I need to defend GB manufacturing from the standpoint of simply:

ordered 1 set of 4. Plugged them in & they haven't failed in anyway. Just looked at my spark plugs & they were perfect. No external leaks either.

Bought them from Paragon or Pelican.

HOWEVER: I was very disappointed with the external appearance of them. But if they work, they work, right?

To the original poster of this thread:

-Are you aware that early & late 944 models use different injectors? And the wrong injector can destroy the driver in your ECU? Or so I am told. This got me to double check my 1988 model & the GB part number on the box. This site came up: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...-944-852-12113

Best of luck to you.

Noah
