Default How much longer are late offset tie rod ends?

I've been searching all morning for the early and late offset tie rod lengths. After installing the lindsey racing control arms last year, I've been bothered that the tie rods ended up with a lot less thread than they had previously.

So I'm wondering if 1987+ tie rods would work out better. Does anyone know how much longer the late offset tie rods are? I could use 1/2" or so, but anything more than that and I'd have to cut threads off I bet.

I seem to recall they're about 1" longer. Personally, for a tierod, I'd want a minimum of 2x thread diameter engagement.

do you want a longer tie rod (steering rack side) or tie rod end (wheel side)?

if there's enough thread on the tie rod i might have come up with an interesting alternative yesterday while working on my subaru...

the subaru has the same female thread pitch onto the tie rod as the 944 and the balljoint pin looks the same size/taper, but the subaru tie rod end is about 2 inches longer in shank body than the 944...

The only way to tell is to mike the pin at the top and bottom of the taper for a quick and dirty...If the thread fits up OK, and you want more body length to the tie rod end (presume this is the outer one) then run it...Subie parts are cheaper than Porsche.. If you are concerned about the pin taper/fitment..you could try some machinists blue to see where the contact areas are (or are not)...just sayin..Tiger 03447

FWIW I have a brand new set of complete tie rods for a late 951 turbo if you need a set.

Thanks. I'm having the performance shop take a look at the rods this week while it's in there to count how many threads are being used and to find a solution for lengthening (I recommended the late offset rods as a seemingly good option). I get in trouble when I supply my own parts, but thanks!
