Default wtb 951 x post EDIT: found a car

copied from my post in the 944 turbo sub forum.

Hey guys, its been a long time but im in the market for another 951. You might remember my heart breaking rod bearing story on my '87... https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...ore-951-a.html anyways, went to a 968 for 5 years and sold that about 6 months ago to another member here who is doing a turbo conversion! https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...eymans-na.html
pretty cool stuff.

Anyways, here are some thoughts i have when looking for a new 951:

I want to use this car as a reliable almost daily driver.

tasteful mods are welcome. however if the car is stock i would most likely leave it that way.

Im open to any 951 thats in really good shape cosmetically and has to be driveable mechanically. Id prefer very good condition mechanically as well but I know my way around these things and isnt a must.

Id prefer late offset but would buy on condition rather than year alone.

I really like the idea of a turbo S or '89 model but again, this would be based on condition rather than year.

open to all color combinations/wheels.

Preference given to models with full options such as full leather, LSD etc. but not a deal breaker.

Im willing to ship/drive the car back to NC but of course local would be preferable.

maintenance is of course important and i would pay a premium for big ticket items that can be proved but can just as easily save money on purchase and do the maintenance myself for peace of mind.

Might think of a few more but thats what ive got at the moment. Im not breaking any new ground with these preferences but thought id share nonetheless. Hopefully my next car is out there somewhere! Thanks guys!
Chris

There's a nice looking '89 Turbo S here:

105K on the LSD so it's probably ready for a rebuild (~$2000). If you plan to put $10K in it it should serve you well.

I had 200k+ on my factory LSD and it ran fine no issues. I changed out the fluid yearly to keep it fresh and had the car for 5 years. Honestly if you spend 16k on a 951 is shouldn't need anything especially if the miles are 100k. If you buy a 951 for 10k it should already be a nice driver, I paid 2,800 for my 951 and it was in driveable condition. Paint and interior was in great shape and ran well; only a few things actually failed( FPR, fuel pump, ball joint, shocks) rest was be blowing money since I didn't have the maintenance history and it was all original (except clutch).

This is the best news I've heard so far. I'm putting an LSD in my '89 as we speak and I've been asking folks what sort of mileage they're getting from them. Some have said "maybe 20K" (those were people who run them exclusively on the track), others report better results. Yours is probably the highest number I've seen so far.

For the record, doing an LSD rebuild these days is looking like about $1100 in labor and $400 in parts. I'm accepting bids from qualified shops on the installation. Being somewhere near CA is a benefit since that's where the transmission is.

My pleasure. For almost 30 years I hadn't been able to make up my mind between the '89 Turbo S and the '89 S2. I'll probably never be satisfied until I've owned both. I have an S2 in my shop now that I'm upgrading to the Firehawk specs, it should be done in the next month or so I hope. I expect it will be a fun car.

Good luck with your car! Let us all know what you think?

I'd ask about the LSD, it isn't mentioned. I think the option code is 220.
