Default FS: 1980 924 Turbo CGT project

Have a track-only 924 Turbo, MSII, EDIS, top-mounted intercooler, AIR International fender kit, 944 rear suspension, Konis front and rear, 350# springs on cheap coil-overs, 28mm adjustable front sway bar, 19mm adjustable rear sway bar, 30mm solid torsion bars, Delrin bushings in front control arms, Weltmeister Performance bushings in rear, Toyo RA-1s 225 on all four corners with early offset cookies, Sunroof delete car, very light, new windshield. Sparco Evo II plus seat, G-force newer 5-point harness. No cage. NEEDS a new motor. Blew the motor piston contact. Have a spare, but needs rings. However, the car is in Arizona, and the engine is in Wisconsin. Can deliver car in AZ, and engine next fall if needed. Here's the car at Chuckwalla:

I'll price things separately if one does not want everything.

Here's the factory intercooler: $2200.00 firm.

The car itself, no electronics, includes drivetrain: $1500.00/bo

The 'electronics', MSII, Painless Wiring (whole car wired): $1000.00/bo

Nice project for someone, too bad it isn't closer to FL as a friend just rolled his 944 and would be all over this.

Yes, and it includes the expensive factory mounting brackets. I already have someone interested in this, so no big deal. However, if someone wanted the whole car, including the intercooler, and rebuild an engine it's available.

This is a fast fun car, you'll surprise the 944's, Miatas, and '80s 911s out there on the track. I bought an '89 944 turbo, and built an '88 924S track car, and an '88 924S Special Edition (same engine family), so getting out of the 2.0L business. Have spare parts that I can throw into the 'package deal', spare uncracked exhaust manifold, spare good turbo, lots of misc. parts. They are all in Wisconsin though, so would have to be shipped this spring/summer.

Also, I have two front mounted intercoolers that can be fitted instead of the factory model. One, is a from a 944 turbo, and the other is a longer, skinnier version from an SRT-4 I believe. Plenty of room up front behind the GTS front bumper. The typical mounting has been where you remove the vented nose-panel, but, that requires a lot of work.

Tell you what, that's a damn impressive piece if that original intercooler is worth that much! I2 that the original piece off of the 924 Carrera GT? I can understand why it would cost so much based on its rarity.

No, the originals were made by Langerer & Reich, in West Germany. I believe the factory-fitted coolers had a red label w/serial number. Mine is a blue label, made in 1983 by the same company. So, these are 'factory spares' if you will, for parts inventory. Mine was 'new' when I bought it in 2008. The factory brackets are still available from Porsche, spendy, at around 400 bucks. It's still rare, but they come up on Ebay here and in Europe for less, and sometimes more~! The front mounted cooler option is a very good one, so it isn't necessary to buy this for the project.

Great deal! Wish I had the time for another project, I'd throw my 951 engine in this.

Actually, the 2.0L engine requires a completely different crossmember/motor mounts than the 2.5L engine. In other words, it's not worth it. Better off starting with a 924S, and adding the fender flares and bumper.

Also, all the under-car components are rust free, and painted black, the torque tube, the torsion carrier, control arms. The rear bumper on this car is a fiberglass Euro bumper, minus the rubber strip.

True, but you don't find 924S's at this price point often. Hope someone snags it up!

I thought I would throw this out, this car, but don't believe the 944 crowd will be interested. I will probably store the car at our AZ place for the summer. Then I'll rebuild the spare engine I have in WI, haul it down here and install it. I'll then have three cars to beat up on the track!
