Is there supposed to be a curve to the large flat area above the instrument panel? Mine has a notable curvature from back to front, with the front lip of the dash being raised significantly from flat.

I think so Konokat. That part of my dash was pretty cheese gradered. I'm sanding carefully to get as close as I can. I am mostly going for smooth and straight. I hope I do well ;-)

I think it's supposed to be pretty flat, with a slight upward rake to the "front" of the binnacle. On mine, the cracks were so numerous that it was like a ruffles chip up there

Awesome! Curious to see which vinyl you go with. If you have a heat gun, you may want to test your center speaker area. If the foam has a lot of air bubbles in it, it may puff outward when hot.

I got 3 yards of vinyl from Jo-Ann Fabrics:

I figure I'll have a bit extra to play with.
I almost went with "Crock-Black":

I just wasn't sure I was ready to commit to that much awesome.
I'm still on the fence about filling the little holes with something.
I'd like to fill them, I'm just trying to think of what would be good to use.
Also I am consider giving the foam spots primer and rubberized paint before I cover with vinyl.
What do you think Mike?

I'm a little skeptical of undercoating holding up in the long term, the thick coats I used became a very viscous liquid when heated up. It also doesn't fill voids, when it dries it will show all the flaws that were there before you sprayed it on.
What do you think about fiberglass resin? You can buy it at Lowes and places like that. Just saturate the foam with it, and when it cures, it will be impervious to cracking or bubbling and can be sanded smooth.

Rocket,
Was your experience with this flexible stuff?

It reads like this type may work, but I'd like to know if you had a fail with this variant.
