Crazy squealing brakes! Help!
Ahh. My brakes won't stop squealing. I've rebuilt my calipers and I put the grease on the back of the brake pads but it still squeals when there's only light brake pressure applied. If you press hard it doesn't squeal at all. I also noticed sometimes when coming out of the corners I get a little chirp of a squeal until I start accelerating comfortably away. I have Pagid blue pads that the previous owner put in he also replaced the brake rotors. Any thoughts?

Once Ive been driving around for 5 min they do. I wouldn't call that hot - like after a hot lap - but softly braking at low speeds makes them squeal like crazy

Performance pads usually have a high metal content... which helps them grip while hot. But this causes squealing at light pedal pressures. Stock pads are much softer compounds and will fade more when hot, but won't make noise.
You might be able to try a high-carbon pad... but those need to be hot before they really work well.

There are two Pagid "Blue" compounds which makes things a bit confusing. The medium blue RS42 is a race compound that is most frequently used on light, low horsepower cars. The Pagid "Sport" pad was, for a time, painted dark blue. This Sport pad is basically the old RS421 compound which is good for high performance street and light track use. The squeal is caused by the harmonic vibration that sets up between the pad, rotor and caliper. You may try a pad that is more aimed at low noise like Mintex or Metalmasters. Any pad can squeal, but some are less likely to do so.

my pagid blues been squealing for 90 k miles. drive around town for 5 minutes, they screech.
drive hard, they don't. brake hard, they don't.
with 90 k on them, it looks like i'm about 40% of the way through,
so I guess i'll try putting on another 100 k more before I swap em.... for Brake Best/GTS/993TT pads available at O'Reily's.
estimating the Pagids wear at about the same rate as the GTS rotors so, i'll be killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
oem GTS rotors are worth every penny.

Go down to your favorite AutoZone store and get Permatex disc brake quiet..It's a blue adhesive that keeps the pads from being independent of the piston..comes in a little white packet...put it on the back of the pads instead of grease..let it dry..should solve the problem....Jason is correct it is the vibration that causes the squeal. It is amplified by the rotor....
