Default Christmas for a 15 year old

My 15 year old has the itch for a car and its time for him to join the club.
Its funny he has watched me race, and I am in the business, but he really isn't a car kid. I picked up a solid but very neglected 944 on the cheep. The car has not run in over 8 years and for the last 2 years has been sitting on blocks on someones back yard.
It will be a learning experience for him and will hopefully give him more respect on the road spending the next 6 months restoring the mechanicals and prepping the body for paint
He is a typical 15 year old looking for direction and a sense of accomplishment.
My wife always kids me in that she has to do all the grunt work and I always look like a hero.

Nice, I hope he will enjoy the project if he isn't a car kid.

Is it NA or turbo?

Sounds like a great father-son project! Looking forward to seeing your progress on the car.

Enjoy the project with your son. My 15 year old is always looking for 944 project cars and we'll get it within the next year. Funny how my wife says almost the exact same thing.

This is EXACTLY the kind of project my car started out as when I was 15!!!

Sat for a decade, neglected, not running. I wasn't crazy into cars but as I worked on that 944 bringing it back to life I became obsessed 30,000 miles and 4.5 years later and I'm still working on it all the time (the joy of buying a neglected car) but by now I have experience working on most components of a car inside and out, thanks to my 944.

After sitting for 8 years, the car runs again. most likely the car was parked because of bent valves. A soon as i get a new timing belt cover, all of the engine issues should be resolved. I will be doing all of the heavy lifting on the mechanicals, but my son will be doing the brakes, suspension and body prep work.
He will be let in on his new project soon.

Glad to see another being saved! I have an 83 in blue that if for my wife. It also didn't run for over 10 years but with a new computer it fired up. I didn't run it long as it was still on original parts. Now the engine is out and mostly torn down for a full rebuild. The body has some issues but I still have to deal with DMV paperwork which means it needs to have power first.

Well, the kid has been sanding on the car for three days but he is making some progress, Due to a bad respray some of the panels will have to be taken down to bare metal he spent 2 days just on the hood. Replaced the front fender, front upper valence and headlight covers, also scored some nice reproduction wheels. As soon as we get it sanded to the origional paint and sealed he can learn how to block sand.

Default father and son

This is a great opportunity to develop a sense of accomplishment for you both. He'll be able to proudly drive the car and his friends will likely admire him for what he accomplished and for seeing it through. Very "character building" project.

Car is looking great, especially with those Fuchs wheels.
