Default early brake/rotor upgrade option?

doing some research I came across this:
http://www.gsrenner.nl/GSR-Central/6...n%20type-1.htm

now basically what he's done (even though its for a VW, but same difference right?) Hes used the early hub and simply put a late style rotor ON TOP instead?

Why aren't more people doing that?
Also the only issue I see (as least for my 931) is I cant space the wheels out any further, so can I machine 5mm off the face of the hub to make up for the rotor hat thickness?

probably because most people dont have access to/dont want to pay for such machining, when "bolt in" options exist.

that beetle probably goes back in time when you hit those brakes now

define "bolt in"??

what other options are there? where can I get a 330 rotor to "bolt in" an early set up?

I don't think turning the face of the hub down is a hard thing to have done, quite easy in fact

I think the main concern is that the early hubs are a known weak point. Now add more weight and leverage to those small bearings and then machine some off the hubs and imo your are on the road to disaster. Plus the bigger wheels and larger tires you'll need to clear those calipers will also add more stress to the hub.

There was a logical reason why Porsche fitted beefier hubs with bigger bearings on the later cars.

what exactly is the difference between the late and early hub? I dont have anyroom to space the wheels out, so i need to keep it narrow.

I do like the idea of a stronger axle

The bearings are bigger, the stub axle (spindle) is bigger, the hub is bigger, it's just stronger overall and a better design. Thing is you would need to go late offset and your early wheels won't fit anymore especially if they are already tight in there.

I'm sure someone on here has already made a stronger early hub that fits bigger rotors on the outside of the hub and bigger calipers to match. Maybe someone will chirp in with a link, I can't find it right now.

I have late offset wheels
2002 17" 10 spokes.

I just need to make sure they fit under 924 fenders (want to keep the narrow body)

so im reading here:
http://reutterwerk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39370

and is that correct that the difference in offset is in the control arms?

but he says he used the 86 hubs with 87 spindles???

The "offset is in the control arms AND the spindles, the late control arms are longer and the late spindles are angled to suit. There are also other minor differences in how the struts fit and I think also the strut top mount. 86 hubs won't fit on 87 spindles.

Good info here: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...llet-hubs.html and here: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...-early-na.html

I have a complete set of early offset spindles/hubs/rotors/calipers off of my 86 Turbo available if you are looking. I just upgraded my brakes to 993tt big reds.

I believe this is exactly what you are looking for. https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...r-install.html

Boxster calipers with Carrera rotors. There is also some talk of using 330mm Cayenne rotors later in the thread, I'm not sure if that went anywhere.

As soon as I hear back if the cayenne rotor fits, I'll do a mockup on those over hub rotors for early cars.
There is a 302x28 rotor from Dodge minivan that I machined to fit the early hub as well. Its offset was short enough to clear the tie rod knucle.

Those look like boxsterS rotors with larger dia. Therefore the setscrew pcd is 120mm and would need centering rings like I did for boxsterS rotors. They fit over late hubs but the O.D. of the early hubs need machined down.

why exactly do you need the centering rings? don't the studs bascially do that? and the set screws add to it?
