Why don't my windshield washers spray on my new purchase??
Hi Everyone,
Hope you all are enjoying the day.
Just bought a 1988 944 base model. it has a numbe rof things that need looked into (of course). One of the issues is the windshield washers did not spray. Ok. Motor had power (test light showed that). Pushed the lever on the column and saw the hose is broken. Spliced the leak and pushed the level again. Pump works and water does leak out of my splice. But nothing from the jets onto the windshield. Look at the underside of the hood and see that wires run to the jets. What do these wires do?
Thanks in advance
Ed

There are check valves in the plumbing that are designed to keep the fluid from draining back into the reservoir that frequently get gummed up. They are just downstream from the washer jets, small white plastic pieces.
Try unplugging the line from the passenger side check valve on the pump side and see if you get fluid out of the line. Sometimes you can remove the check valve and soak them in warm water to un-stick them. I think some have soaked them in white vinegar as well.
Here's what the 'T' on the passenger side looks like:

Or pump impeller can be shot.

a fine sewing needle will clear the nozzles....really small so your not actually pushing the precipitate back into the housing. if everything else is clear, have someone bump the switch while you're reaming, for lack of a better word. aim them to your preference)
I rank the washer just under brakes and tires as the most important safety feature on any car.

After replacing my dead windshield washer pump I spent 2 dollars on 10 feet of fresh plastic hose and replaced all of it.
The washer fluid still drooled out so I blew compress air through the jet/nozzles and the T Valves.
Then the windshield washer system worked correctly.
I hope this helps you.
