Default Achieving a better stance

Good evening forum,
I'd like to introduce myself as Dylan

I recently purchased my first porsche (hopefully of many) an 87 reg 944s with 122k miles and a great service history at a reputable specialist.

There are a few little niggles which i am working out such as rattles ect (just things that need re attaching)

I'd really like to achieve a better more fitted stance, something like this:

Take note this is my daily and i am not super flush with cash.

For reference, here's a picture of my own new love!

As far as i've understood after trawling other's posts, i can adjust the rear spring plates for a minor drop and some front springs could drop a further 20mm or so

i would then assume i'd need some 10-20mm spacers with longer bolts

and maybe some larger wheels?

Hi Dylan, congrats on your purchase.

You're on the right track with your mods. These cars handle best at stock height, or thereabouts.

20mm drop is fine. Some o the site sponsors should be able to help you out with parts!

Cheers,
Mike

i would get the wheels/tires to get the look you are after before messing with the suspension height IMO. you might find the wheel/tire fills the arches enough for your taste.

if there are any steep driveways or bumps around where you drive a lowered 944 will scrape on them and tear up that pretty front end.

if you do adjust ride height, make sure to do it so the front and rear remain level (if the rear drops 19mm then the front should drop the same) to get the best handling.

if someone can please photoshop some 968 side mirrors on,

that top photo will become one of the best images of a 944 evaar.

944 side mirrors were, are and remain an abjectly obscene deed of horror.

Clean car, congrats!

Are you planning on keeping the phone dials? If not I would second what V2 said. If you are keeping them, consider larger spacers or adapters for the rear, it will really make the wide hips look nice.

What you are trying to achieve requires some $$$. I'm not trying to discourage you, just some advice from personal experience.
You will need at the very least:
-New wheels (17" or 18"; the ones in the pic are 18" BBS LM's I believe.) Definitely wider than stock & negative offset $$$
-New tires (235/40 - 255/40 something along these lines) $$
-Height adjustable coilovers or lowering springs $$$
-Much stiffer springs than stock unless you want to buy new tires every week
-Labor if you need a mechanic to put it all on for you $$$
-A daily driver because you wont be able to drive the slammed 944 in the winter $$$$$

* word of advice: if you want it to look right, use wider wheels for a wider "stance". If you use spacers to make your skinny 9" wheels sit farther out, sure it'll make your car look more aggressive but when you look at it from behind its gonna be awkward because they wont fill the arches from the inside. Stay away from spacers imo

wide stance skinny wheels example (ewww)

Very nice car, welcome!

Coilover sleeves on Koni's up front. Re-indexed larger torsion bars out back with Koni Yellows. Turbo S anti-roll bars. 17" wheels. The whole setup was under $600(all used parts from forums and classifieds) not including wheels. I did all the work.
Rides and handles beautifully. Looks great IMHO.

Thanks for all the advice guys, i'm pretty savvy and confident i can fit it all myself, the bottom of the car currently scrapes on none of the sky scraper speed humps i drive over on my way to work, i wouldn't want to ruin that lovely novelty in comparison with some of my old adventures.

I really like the teledials but i don't think the premium for investing in some 16" turbo versions would be worth the minor difference, id rather go for a dished option or something bbs e.g

maybe i'll start with the spacers, and see how i feel about height from there, a 20mm drop should be pretty negligible in regards to how low the sump is ect (i hope)

I think something from above is telling me to sort my mirrors out, i was planning to rub them down and spray them original colour again as they have lost all lacquer and shine and on my way to work this morning, somebody clipped my passenger mirror and tore a load of paint off it, Joke is on them however as thiers came clean off! (german build quality>Jap)

One thing i would like to ask, prior to me giving the car new plugs, oil filter ect ect, it was jumping around on idle, the idle speed is stable but the cabin feels as if someone is shaking it, it has majorly calmed but can anyone advise me on what it might be? My thoughts were possibly engine mounts but the drivers side seems like it would be a ******* to get to and i'd rather not pay out on them if they are okay, is there anything else it could be?

if its shaking a lot at idle it is most likely shot engine mounts, the exhaust side of the engine wears out its mount faster.

The "Not so super flush with $" best bet would be:

http://www.paragon-products.com/Lowe...elt_sp-200.htm

and:

https://www.paragon-products.com/kb_results.asp?ID=56

Lots of more expensive ways to go about it too.

Nice looking car - congrats!
