Tired of stuffing pipe insulation into the gap between the winshield and the hood. Haven't found any OEM or after market solution, has anyone else found one?
If not, what do you do to keep the leaves out (aside from a tarp or a garages)?

Buy a cheap $30-50 car cover with a bag.
You can wad it up and stick it in one of the rear side compartments when you're driving.

They only take about 2-3 minutes for one person to unbag, open up, and stretch out over the car.

Or you can buy a really good cover and keep your car nice and clean.

I've seen those leaves make thier way to the exhaust manifold and ignite (not flame but burn like a cigarette). Of course I lost a somewhat rare plastic battery cover the same way.

Mercedes had a nice way of dealing with this, their wiper cover had formed pockets so the debris could be caught instead of filling up the battery and relay box areas. So far the only thing I've come up with is a $900 carport....Bruce

Run the OEM cover, and clean out the sides regularly.

I am interested in this too, I put in a new battery yesterday and someone could disconnect my positive terminal without even opening the hood because of the open gap.

I cover my car most of the time but when I'm out and about there's no time to be messing with that.

Yes this is really a problem.

The problemS are:
- water rusting out the drain holes
- the drain holes not being able to expel water fast enough in a heavy downpour (or a car wash)
- cleaning out smaller debris that plug up the drain holes that aren't as easy as large leaves
- punks who'll jam stuff in there for kicks (yes they exist)
- need I go on or are you getting it?

And yes, leaves. Even if leaves were the only "problem", this is a simple and cheap solution that is being used on just about every other car even from the same time period. This is not a stupid question, if it were, why don't all car makes just leave the area open?

So these are problems you foresee happening, or problems you currently have?

Can I have an example of a car that doesn't have the area open from the same time period?

A simple periodic cleaning of the area solves all this. Every car I've ever owned gets leaves, leafs under the hood, but its never been a problem.

I might have missed it, but are you missing the OEM blower cover?

i once found a slice of pizza next to the blower fan because theres nothing stopping it being slid in there.
as i said above, battery terminals are entirely exposed with the factory setup.

so a cowl cover under the rear of the hood is something worth designing.

TBH what the original picture shows might be a fair option.
there's no cowl induction on the 944 and the only thing that needs open space there is the heater fan.

if you put a sort of foam rubber deal like that pool noodle thing at the base of the windshield (stuck on) it would compress under a closed hood lip and keep the pizzas out and maybe the noise in the engine bay could stay put.

has anyone thought of DIY somekind of metal grid (perhaps from aluminium grid, easy to bend and wont rust) to stop bigger leaves no build up there to clogg the drain holes?

I have the blower cover which doesn't cover the battery or the fusebox trays

both

if it were only leaves I may be able to live with it but smaller debris:
a) gets in
b) water gets in and causes the debris to coalesce
c) the moist debris clogs the drain holes

Only944 said they would look into making one if there was decent demand so if anyone who's interested can indicate as such I'll forward this thread, thanks
