Talking Recent photos of the plastidipped Camo 951

Alright so it's not really a legitimate camo design. It doesn't exactly blend in to any scenery or backdrop, and its proportions are oversized and misshapen. The paintjob itself looks as shoddy as can be. It's rough to the touch and it looks like I rushed the job - which I did.

But the point here was just to do something fun and completely different. It seems to get a lot of compliments from people everywhere I go, and apparently has inspired everyone from kids, artists, family members, business owners, friends, and fellow car enthusiasts all to "think outside of the box." And that was really the whole purpose of doing it.

The other reason was because, well.... Plastidip is temporary. It can be peeled off when you get tired of looking at it. It requires very little prep work. It is applied easily and dries quickly. It's very durable, and requires no sanding to remove.
And before anyone asks - I spent a total of $100 on paint and materials. A few cans of each of the 4 colors (black, gray, white, green) some tape, masking paper... and done!

Moving on to the pictures.

A few people have asked about my cam housing as well.

It's supposed to be the color-changing chameleon paint.

Why? I guess just because. Why not, right?

And just a little trick I decided to play on the intake manifold.... my attempt to deflect heat from the turbo away from the intake. It looked neat while it was off the engine. But once installed I wanted it to be completely unseen.

I've considered plastidipping my car another color because 1. I'm sick of red and 2. The paint is horrible looking anyway

Always wanted a white 944...

HA! I think it looks like you are having fun!
I bought a spray can of black Performix Plasti Dip at my local Ace for $12 this summer to blackout the emblems/badges on my white Jeep, which for fun were also followed by the side emblems/badges, followed by the antennae, followed by the wheel center caps, and four moths later had enough left to spray a mist on an old shovel handle. Fun stuff!
A buddy at work just Plasti Dipped his Audi wheels an almost neon combo of green and yellow and it really "pops".
The chameleon paintjob is fantastic!

The car definitely stands out in a crowd. I would not be brave enough to do it myself, but it is fun to look at. Love the idea of the intake heat shield. I have always thought there should be some shielding there.

Haha. Thanks everybody. I knew this thread would get some interesting comments

The burgundy paint underneath the plasti dip was very bad. It was flaking in many places, faded on the top surfaces, and had lots of other chips, bondo cracks, etc. I'm not sure as to what spawned the camo paint scheme but for the time being I've been really enjoying it.

One of the universal kits from CX Racing. In order to make it fit, I had to chop a section out of the bumper bar and shave the backside of the bumper cover in several places.

I like the pattern, it goes well with the shape of the car.

What kind of gold tape is that? Do you know if it made any improvement?

I got a 3ft wide roll of the gold heat reflective tape from an old 944 racer that passed away years ago. I think there are several companies that make it but DEI seems to be the most prevalent upon a quick google search. It is used widely among so many racing applications and you can stick it on just about anything. Apparently it works great deflecting heat from firewalls, and intake components.

Not sure if it has made any improvement yet as I don't have a way to monitor intake temperatures or anything. The air moving through the intake is probably moving too fast to really be affected a whole lot by radiating heat from the turbo, especially while under a load. Maybe at idle it will help. But either way I figured it was better than nothing there at all!

Love this paint job.

Reminds me of a Ford Capri I had a few years back. I invited friends over for a painting party, gave them each a different colour can of spray paint, and we just freestyled...

Help me understand the Porsche owner mentality.

I was vilified for even suggesting this paint job:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...ing-a-car.html

The owner of the attached was crucified for ordering this paint job, done by Porsche, sold the car, and it's been impossible to resell since.

Not that I'm criticizing the OPs paint job or the custom paint job for that matter, just curious why some get complimented and others blasphemed ... ?
