For this piece of sound insulation that is in driver's footwell. I can't seem to find it in PET.

It is part of the front inside insulation/sound panel. It is attached to a larger part and that individual piece goes around the steering column.

Actual part you need is this one and would require removing carpet to get at it.

Actually ordered and received that part number from Sunset Porsche in Portland, OR (long trek to Des Moines!) and the piece that goes around the steering column was not included. Which was why I was wondering if there was a separate part number.

And what does this piece do exactly?
Does it simply quiet cabin noise?

Yep, that's all I am aware of that it does. Since the larger piece of insulation has a .02 ending to the part number, that means two changes in its lifetime. I spoke with a parts person at the dealership where I got the new part, and he said that Porsche does not provide any information about what the specific changes are from one version to the next. That being said, he offered to look up anything he could from the pictures.

I suppose unless a RL member has better information, I will see what he may be able to report back.
