Default Power Steering has bad leak...safe to drive?

My power steering line just developed a pretty substantial leak. I dont want to damage the rack or the PS pump but I wont have time to fix it until the weekend..will driving it harm anything?

Thanks

If the leak is bad enough that you'll pump out all of the oil, then you might want to remove the belt to the pump - it's not a good idea to run it dry.

Go to auto parts store and get heat resistant self amalgamating silicon tape. Wrap it good per instructions until this weekend. Don't let small repair turn into big money for the rack or pump.

So, if I cut the belt...the pump will be fine? I would rather do this considering it's going to be repaired anyway.

You dont have to cut the belt you can detension it and remove it. I've been driving my car for 3 years without a belt.

you can drive the car without the pump hooked up for as long as you like. And I know you can drive a couple of hundred miles with no fluid and the pump hooked up without hurting the pump because I fixed one where that was done - it was a bad rack, and the pump was fine. but it's better to remove the belt. Don't cut the belt, that is just stupid.
