Smells like a glazed, warped, flywheel. Once the clutch warms up, maybe it grips better.

mine does it if it gets too hot for example when driving through NYC in the middle of the summer, I find that mine improves with normal use, but yes Volhv is probably correct

Could be some air in the lines. My car does this sometimes, after a bleed it goes away.

My original rubber center clutch shudders a lot when hot. Example, when I drive 30mins to my local car show in the summer, when I'm finally in the parking lot and getting on/off the clutch over and over as I make my way through crowds of people, it usually shudders pretty bad. Yours is the opposite though

Believe it or not on a 87 944S changing to a new chip made all the difference in the world.

Like Butters I get this, hot and cold, but mostly hot.

There's still life left in my clutch, apparently.

According to my research (lot of threads out there on different forums worldwide), it's likely related to the rubber center in the clutch.

I'm going to live with it for now (clutch operation is now an exciting challenge of skill and patience to see how smooth I can disengage) until I can't take it anymore and throw in the towel with regards to a new one.

I don't think the 86 had a rubber center on the clutch but I could be wrong.

Let's assume for the moment that it's not a hot spot on the plate. What else could it be? I've bled the hydraulic slave cylinder and its up to par. Could it be a tranny mount or clutch pedal adjustment (though the pedal doesn't seem out of shape.

I spoke with a Porsche mechanic about my situation briefly and he suggested a hot spot on the plate, but couldn't explain what the symptoms went away after the car warmed up.

I really don't want to go through 20+ hours of work to find out the plate or clutch is not the issue.

My '86 Lux had a rubber center that was destroyed when we took it out.

Does your rear main seal leak? If you are getting any oil into the clutch, it will take a few miles to sling out, and it makes the disc sticky.

The rear main seal does not leak and when I remove the starter I don't see any evidence of debris. Though I'm not sure I would be able to see any regardless

I have a similar, but different issue - in high gear, while decelerating, I start to get serious bucking around 2000 rpm. Down shifting a gear or two normally takes care of it, but it seems odd that the car should be so unhappy at this rpm.

86 951, 3 inch cat delete. 3 bar fuel pressure regulator.

Is this normal? Clutch seem normal when moving from a standing start or in normal shifting. Only other issue is bringing first to second when trying to shift quickly, but that seems to be synchros.

Why are you running a 3bar FPR?
