Removing early interior A pillar trim pieces
For early dash removal, Clark's says
For step 16, I'm assuming those are the pieces to the left and right of the sunroof? Or is that fore and aft of the sunroof? Removing the visors makes me think the latter. I've removed the visors and that piece between the windshield and the sunroof is glued down or something. The pieces to the left/right of the sunroof didn't appear to be holding down the A pillar trim pieces in any significant way.
I removed the door seal and all screws. I just want to remove the A pillar trim pieces without destroying them! Anyone have any tips?
16. Remove the trim panels on either side of the roof.
17. Remove the sun visors.
18. Remove the A-pillar trim pieces.

I removed them fairly easily with a trim removal tool.
I don't remember exactly how they were attached, but it wasn't memorable in it's difficulty.
(the A-Pillar is the one on either side of the windscreen)

3 screws & wiggle
If the 83 944 is similar to my 88 924s there is no reason to remove the visors or upper trim pieces. The A-pillar pieces are held on by 3 Phillips head screws under the plugs on the trim piece. Use a pocket knife to pop the plugs out and a #2 Phillips, the screws may be tight if this is the first time taking them out in 30 years. On my car the top one is almost vertical. After that with gentle but firm wiggling and gentle prying you should work them out without damaging anything. Mine were originally a little stuck from heat and years on the plastic/vinyl. Good luck and have fun.
