Is it possible to find out which piston tolerance group my block is without removing the head?

Yes, can be seen with head installed, on the deck of the block just fwd of each oil gallery.

I have an exhaust heat sheild blocking the way, so could not take a recent pic with all installed, but here's some old ones.

I have to fish my camera to place I can see to take this photo

That said its much better than taking off the head!
