Default Early DME/AFM in 1987 NA

Currently looking at moving a 87 DME over to my 83 so I can run NA Tune, and moving the 83 DME/AFM into the 87 to keep it running. I know it's basically plug and play, but are there any consequences of using the early gear in the late car?

I'm aware of the different AF mapping, injector impedances, and the altitude sensor pin on the early DME, but beside that, would there be any real problems? I'm not sure how the cold ISV would like it. Anyone done it?

The differences are so few that it wouldn't matter at all.

The injectors are the same.

Yeah, the cold idle would be the only thing that might cause problems I think. You may just have to set the idle a bit higher or give the gas some revs when you start.

Thanks guys. I'm comfortable with setting up the idle, and may look into a way to pass a fake signal to the altitude sensor pin.

Spencer - have you gotten the parts yet? I put the throttle body in the mail last week.

I just swapped a later 86 DME in my 83 and you have to swap a later AFM as well otherwise it won't run,not sure about the opposite ,early DME and AFM in a late car though ...

Wildcat, in both cases the DME must match the AFM, late or early. In any case Michael, I don't think you will have a problem and the car will run better with the late gear.

Or you could just megasquirt it and not have to worry about any of that!
