Look at the video and let me know if the split washer is required


I said "nut" in the video but I mean split washer.

My shop manual doesn't say anything about a washer under the plate. But for that matter it doesn't show the washer on top either

Generally you would never use a split lock washer next to rubber as it will chew it up. Are you sure it doesn't go between the metal cap and shaft nut?

I would remove it like you stated, its not in the PET diagrams . The one under the nut won't hurt.
Just disassembled a set of OEM Struts and no washer in that position under the "Stop" ring.

Looking over mine, they don't appear to have a split washer either. It's just a plain washer.
