Default Summertime (>32 deg F) = distilled water only?

On the one hand I hear water is the best coolant, on the other someone said water can boil and cause loads of issues.

Given that for the next few months it'll be above freezing, can I use 100% distilled water in the radiator or must I still use the pricey Porsche coolant 50/50 mix?

Howdy..
Water boils at 250F under 15psi..
Zerex/water of 50/50 adds 15F under 15 psi..
Thus, 265F..

So, is the extra 15 F and the anti-corrosive and lubri properties of the mixture more beneficial than the improved heat dissapation of only distilled?
For my peace of mind, yes.. especially when I add some Water Wetter..

But then, I don't race or DE..
Anxious to hear the experts weigh in..
Cheers. -mikey

any aluminum-safe coolant should be fine for your engine, not just the porsche pink stuff (or whatever color it is).

Straight water cools well, but lacks the lubricants needed for the WP to live very long and will not protect from corrosion. Many possible solutions from running a water-biased coolant mix (say 20% antifreeze, 80% water) to products like water wetter (which is great).

From:
http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=74&pcid=10

"Rust and corrosion protection allows for use of straight water in racing or reduced antifreeze levels in warm climates"

That solves the corrosion problem but doesn't say anything about lubricating the water pump ... back to aluminum-safe coolant?

I ran water only in the warm months 2012/13. saved my engine for an extra 2 years.

murder on water pumps? my experience indicates this.

I live in south texas where its above freezing 10 months out of the year. I cut regular cheap prediluted green antifreeze 50/59 with water so it ends up being 25% coolant 75% distilled. Datalogs show I never get over 185* even sitting in traffic on 100+ degree days.

Doug, are you running the factory radiator/fans? Standard or low temp switch/tstat? And just the factory oil cooler?

Factory rad and fans with 80c temp switch and factory oil cooler. The datalogs are accurate, my fans come on right at 176-178*. My intake air temps also dont usually get much over 115* degees measured at the TB in ~100* ambient temps as long as the car is in motion. I have a very large front mount. Sitting still is another story, ive logged intake temps over 150* idling in traffic. I plan on being able to log oil temps at the filter soon as well. I would like to do a before and after comparison when I install my rx7 cooler inline with the factory unit.
